PIS probs - warning lights/error codes

    Have been having cascading problems since installing PIS 10kWh system in April. Early system shutdown, failed BMS boards, then triggering of Prius warning lights. The latter required disconnecting the 12v battery to 'reboot' and cancel them per Robb of PIS. But then, when attempting to do an electrical load test using air con & other accessories, we triggered several yellow warning lights that do no go away with a reboot. Have been told that we need to have a dealer read the codes to troubleshoot. Stuck between high cost of dealer service who may know little/nothing of the PIS impact, and few/far between hobbyist installers who can help figure this out. Major bummer not having this $10k system work, and now it may be impacting the standard operation of our Prius.

    I live in VA, but am in northern NY working for the summer. Anyone in either area with ability/willingness to read those codes for us, or help troubleshoot in any way, or any advice/insight at all - is desperately sought and appreciated.

    Hi Boone,

    I have got a PIS system but havent installed it yet, i`m still running my enginer system.

    You can purchase a bluetooth OBD2 adaptor from ebay or something similar for about 20 dollars and then purchase the Torque APP for your iphone or android phone ( i use an android) then use the USBseaawolf prius specific monitoring software, install it in the torque app and then you can

    1. Read the codes yourself and post here as to what may be the issues, then clear the code afterwards
    2. Monitor yourself in realtime the prius with your phone the prius HV battery temps, voltages, and a whole lot of other stuff that is useful

    Its really cheap to acheive as most poeple now own a phone and it saves you going to a dealer to reset or read your codes for you.

    If you get someone to read your codes for you, post them here and someone may then comment on what type of errors you have got and how / if they can be reset.

    Have now acquired OBDII adapter, and my nephew downloaded Torque to his android phone (I don't have one) but he says he needs some sort of passcode for it all to work together. Can you provide any help so we can continue to follow your advice and post error codes here? Thanks much.

    Not sure what sort of pass code you are needing, maybe for the bluetooth communication from the obd2 adaptor to the phone, if it is, this is usually 0000. Try that.

    Passcode could also be "1234". If it came with instructions or a CD, they should have the passcode documented for you.

    Edit: To clarify, I mean the instructions/CD for the Bluetooth OBDII module.

    There must be some kind of info with the obd2 module you purchased, or brand name, then do a net search or the instructions.
    All the bluetooth pairing codes i have used have been 0000, try a search for the device to see if it gives you the pairing code during the search?
    Cant recommend anything else sorry if that dont work.

    Usually the best OBDII Bluetooth adapters are based on elm237 chipset

    It is ELM 237. Still no luck getting it to work...

    Hi Boone,

    It must be really frustrating not getting the adaptor to connect to your phone. Have you considered trying a different phone to connect to it, maybe the phone you are using is playing up alittle with the bluetooth,
    or maybe the adaptor is faulty.
    have you tried contacting the seller to see if he can try to help you trouble shoot the connection issues, or maybe take it back and send a replacement.
    My adaptor connects every time with the phone so maybe there is a fault with it?

    We got a tech savvy friend to check it out. Turns out we had a bum OBDII adapter. Replacement on the way, so hopefully some codes for y'all to decipher in a few days...
