I removed the tail lights ( the manual shows how in the section on changing the signal and stop light bulbs), masked off the back of the assembly, lightly scuffed the sides with 2000 grit sandpapr, and painted over an adhesion promoter with paint ordered from a site that matches OEM colors. Then I put on a couple coats clear and polished them out with compound and fine polishes. I made lucite templates for the vinyl pieces in back - one each for the top section, middle circle, and bottom. Cut vinyl with an exacto knife and appled Just took some time and a few bucks for the paint.

Alright, I finally went through with it. I didn't smoke my tail lights however, just the side changes.

I sanded the sides with 1300 grit sand paper, taped off the points where I did not want paint to get.

I then primed it with a Dupi-plex primer I had. One layer. Then I added three light layers of Dupi-plex Toyota Sand pearl black spray paint (10 min drying time between each layers). Then two layers of Dupi-plex clear gloss.

Final product....looks pretty nice. It is cloudy out today, so not the best shots. I intend to polish it like the OP did as well.

Update: That popped out look on the side shots was due to me not locking in the top half. I have corrected that.

Love it on the black. Wish someone would do this with the Habanero and black.

Has anyone found a cheaper source for the OEM side garnish?

No kidding.. I'd opt for the garnish if it wasn't so expensive.. I don't have the stones to do this myself, although the looks are killer!

Had my white C's tails wrapped in a 3M vinyl. It looks okay, and for 50 bucks I cant complain.
