I would expect GenIV Prius to go upscale a bit since there is now a less expensive Prius c, and specifically an interior similar to what was demo of the Toyota NS4.

I would like to see if Valvematic & DI make it in the next Gen Prius, and hope Li-ion for efficiency, power/acceleration. etc....

I could be way off track here, but I don't think that Toyota is the source that produced the rendering that is the topic of this thread. If that is in fact true, then the color has no significance. Neither would I read much significance into the size of the tires in the depiction as someone suggested..... it is called "artist license."

Nope, that would be a very bad move for Toyota. I just about threw up having a look at seating in Prius c. Liftback Prius ought to stay right where it's at, but refine lots of things. Mine is fairly kluge'd out to make it work:

Please don't assume your opinion on something is consistent with everyone else's, nor is it necessarily best for Toyota either.

I would be absolutely stunned/thrilled if the final product actually looked like that picture.
The prius c original pics made it look like the most divine vehicle in the universe... very stylish. but the released version was much more conservative... not edgy at all.

Totally agree with you on not understanding the thought process of not producing the 7 seater in the USA. After all, we are the home of the soccer mom mini van homes. Most mothers would love to trade their gas hog vans in on a 7 passenger prius.

Love my 2012 Prius v (aka plus/Alpha) still though. I look forward to seeing the 4WD option. Most likely I will give my v to my son who is 10 this year for his first car and look at buying another new v some time around 2018.

I would actually look for the Yaris Hybrid to inspire the Prius C redesign. I can see like lines between the current Yaris line and Prius C currently.

Oh yeah, go ahead and "upscale" the Prius liftback, the top selling hybrid in US and the world, (which I would think means jacking up the price).

    Brilliant.

    Not.

You are one opinionated fellow. Then I noticed "NorCal" and I understood.

This is a forum where we all get to express an opinion. None of us know what or when the 4th generation Prius will be out. None of us know if it will be an AWD; get 60 mpg; or what the battery chemistry will be. Google "2015 Prius" and you find several renderings of vastly different looking vehicles; and all manner of statements about it's attributes..... and each quoting a Toyota source.

My HOPE is, it will look like a NS4, get 60 mpg and improved handling, come with rear wheel electric motors (AWD), be completely rattle free and cost hundreds less. Wouldn't that be nice?

Personally, my prediction is it will appear reminiscent of the G3, but freshened. It will have an EPA rating better than todays, but not 60 mpg. It will be about the same size as the G3, only slightly lighter and with less rolling resistance. It will cost a few hundred more, and I suspect, there will be a lithium battery option. And I predict it will be introduced in the spring of 2014 as a model year 2015. What is that based on? Just reading a lot, and making what I consider a few logical assumptions. We are all anxious to see what Toyota comes up with.

Yes and I would pre-order one today!

When I first read your post, I was not familiar with what the Yaris looked like. I just "googled" it and now I can say ... "I certainly hope not. To each his own, but I do not like that enormous grille opening. I don't like it on the Yaris, or any of the other current models on the market. In truth, I am a "form follows function" type, and clearly, the Prius does not need an enormous radiator to keep the ICE cool. (pun intended)

Oh, and if it would have been just a test mule for a new drive train, it would make no sense what so ever to mask the test mule. I mean, if you put in a new drive train in an 3d GEN test mule, you could not tell that from just looking at the car.... :)

Your point would be valid, except that in the opinion of a number of observers, while similar, the shrouded "test mule" is not a G3. I don't recall all of the points, but the shape of the grille, the roof line, and the windows (and sill) are different.

I think you misunderstood me. My point was that it cant be a G3 nor a G3 acting as a test mule for a new drive train. I think I even was the one pointing out that the roofline is not the same as G3 in this thread :)
My point was that somebody said it was just a masked G3 acting as a test mule for new drive train and I said that it seems very strange that if you put a new drive train in an "old" G3 body you wouldn't need masking. If you put a new engine inside a G3 acting test mule i think it is safe to say that no one could discern it from a regular G3 with regular drive train, hence no masking would be necessary.
On the contrary, if you test a new drive train in a regular G3, heavy masking would be stupid because you would just draw attention to it.... :)

So, to be clear, my understanding is that the spy photos are of a G4 prototype road testing. Not a G3 acting test mule for G4 drive train. That has already been done to a great extent at this stage, I think. Also, the drive train testing for G4 would have been done in G3 bodies or other chassis, which of we did not notice at all probably :) The best disguise for a new drive train is a regular Prius without masking...
I dont know much about automotive industry but in the business of airplanes, the planning of next gen fighter jets starts almost before the current gen rolls out. Thus, the work of G4 drive train started almost certainly even before G3 was released to market. A lot of ideas and refinements that didn't make it to production in G3 would have been further pursued and developed during the next iteration of development. Now, probably most of the G4 drive train is ready and preproduction testing is well underway. Probably details of how the electronics and driving dynamics work with the new drive train in combination with the new chassis body is the subject of current prototype testing.

Here's a photo of the lovely Yaris steering wheel all perched up high and close to the dash (funny thing is, it IS tilted all way down in photo. and drum rollll .... no telecscopic steering wheel. Way to go Toyota marketing, whoever). I was wondering if one team did the dash / steering wheel engineering, another did the seat and whether they talked because to me it looks like the two belong in different cars. Honda Fit looks great to me, can't stand Yaris.

    camera 507.jpg

Anyone like your Camry steering wheel a little to the right? See any camera tricks given the headrest posts, bisco?

Maybe they are masking only because there is no body shape under those masking ;)

I mean the important thing is drivetrain, the final shape may come latter
