I am also searching for a car. Use carwoo .... input what you are looking for and dealers send you quotes. The prices were great (even better than what a car broker could get).

for pricing a car in your area you can start by looking at

New 2013 Toyota Prius Price Quote w/ MSRP and Invoice

for new car incentives u can look here...

    Incentives and Rebates

If your 50 mile commute is not on the super highway going over 60 mph than a Prius c will get better fuel efficiency than a regular Prius liftback.

If you need to transport a big item like a large dog crate - a Prius v is better than a Prius liftback or Prius c. If you plan to use the cargo area frequently - buy a custom fit rubber Weather tech mat for the rear cargo area from PriusChat's online store. Why? The carpet on the Prius cargo area can be easily damaged.

A used Prius is likely to cost less than a new Prius.

Bluetooth is good -- make sure you get it.

Exterior flat white or black is easier to repaint if u need to do body work.

A portable nav unit is cheaper than an integrated nav unit

If you get a Prius get the OE Toyota floor mats (because they have holes in them that are design to latch onto the floor to keep them fixed in place) - you can by the entire set of 4 on the internet for about $80.

Buy a front windshield sunshade custom made to fit the Prius (from the Prius chat store) don't fool with the cheap ones at the dealership which don't fit correctly.

Are u engaged? If so if u have not gotten her an engagement ring - do so now and get her what she wants before u get the car.

Driving 50 miles in one direction is a long commute - if u driving during the day - wear some heavy duty sunscreen. I like Blue Lizard Sunscreen.

    Odd things to know -
For smokers - the Prius does not have an ashtray and does not have a cigarette lighter.
If you have kids - the Prius doesn't have a trash receptacle or a good place to put an aftermarket one.
If you buy a used Prius - make sure the tires are low rolling resistant tires.

If you are in the So Cal area and not too far from Longo, talk to Alex Li.... I've purchased 3 vehicles from Longo... Alex is amazing and he really isn't trying to hold on the vehicles... Great prices... 2 Prius vehicles and 1 4Runner

If you lived in Oklahoma, you could get one with hail damage. I did that and saved 4,000. Bought it up near Moore Ok. Prius 3 is what I have and it seems to have what you need. Don't understand the hot issue in cally. It gets 105 here and on the highway with ac full blast, I still get 44 to 48 mpg. at 75 depending on elevation I run into. 50 mpg when I drive 65. Seems like I am always driving uphill both ways :)
