I bought this mirror and find it very helpful.

This is the Fit System clip on wide angle rear view mirror, available at Amazon for $11.79 or at O'Reilly Auto Parts (where I bought mine) for $9.99.
It gives an outstanding panoramic rear view that eliminates the blind spots. It does not interfere with the sun visors on the Prius C, does not shake, and clips on in seconds. There are only 2 things which could be considered drawbacks by some folks:
    1. The passenger side headrest blocks some of the mirror's view. I removed the headrest since I rarely have any passengers; I can always put it back on when my wife rides with me.
    2. Objects in the mirror are a bit closer than they appear.

Looks nice, but my problem with the Prius C rear view mirror is that I'm too tall for the way it is mounted. The mirror needs to be lower. It makes it difficult to get a good view out the back windshield. I can see out the back windshield but the angle is such that I can only see about half the distance behind my car as I'm used to with other cars. I'm considering placing a rear view mirror on the dash to see if that works. Some older European cars had their rear view mirrors mounted on the dash.

I'm sure you already know this, but the Prius mirror can be slightly adjusted up or down.

No I didn't, thanks! Mine was a demo model the dealership used for car shows so I didn't get a printed manual. I found a bunch of PDF files on the Toyota website and downloaded them, but that isn't as nice as having a printed manual to thumb through. I'll take a look at how to lower it. I'm guessing it shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks again! That was an easy adjustment as there are two ball joints on the mirror arm. Mine was adjusted to the highest position so I pulled/rotated it downward to the lowest position. That will help considerably.

Gently pull out while you move it up or down. It was pretty exciting when i figured it out.

    *dirty mind... dirty mind...*

  13. I tried doing that (by following the manual directions exactly), and I nearly snapped the mirror off the windshield. What gives? I don't see any ball joints.

theres a ball joint where the mirror stem connects to the base

  15. Alright. Well that wasn't anywhere stated in the manual. I studied that page for like 10 minutes and there was zero indication of what I had to do to the ball joint (or that a ball joint even existed) in order to move it up and down.

You probably already moved it because it won't move much. Try to grasp the stem on the back of the mirror, don't grasp the mirror, and move it up and down a little. Good luck!

  17. The stem nearly ripped off the windshield when I tried that. Seriously I'm just doing what the manual says. Isn't that what new car owners should do first? The manual seems alright to describe 80%-90% of how things work (e.g. how to hide the rear seat belt) but for the other 10%-20% it's extremely misleading.

Here's what the manual should have said, instead of pull up or down:
    1. With your fingers, grab the plastic stem, located behind the rear view mirror. The stem itself looks bent like an elbow.
    2. To change the height of the mirror, twist or revolve the stem so that it is above or below the joint connected to the windshield. (Do not pull directly up or down on the mirror, as this may damage the joint.)

  18. sry if I polarized the thread sometimes I read things like manuals quite literally :notworthy:

I didn't read the manual... just grabbed the shaft and pulled. It began to move how I liked it and everything was perfect for a second... then I realized I had rammed it too hard. I had to pull it out just a little to get to the best spot.
