    2010...but, I just called again on it and it sold. Back to the drawing board. I really wish the guy with the 2010 Prius V with all the bells and whistles (80k miles) would come down to the $15k range.

    If I recall that when I offer a price I want to purchase a car at the seller in many cases comes back with a Counter offer. In many cases the counter offer is lower than the advertised price. The art of negotiation is to get the absolute best deal you can that you feel is acceptable.

    Perhaps the culture of some small towns finds negociating insulting , but in large cities it is rather common.

    When I purchased my Prius 10 months ago I did not purchase it at the first price the seller offered it.

    That is my opinion

    Negotiation is negotiation regardless of seller.

    However it makes sense to negotiate with the person who has power to negotiate

    if not being honest is something u condone, well my friend, u have many lessons to learn in life an they certainly involved more important things than money! i am 100% honest when selling anything! why? well i was just raised that way, i have to put my head on the pillow every nite! i have 4 very succesful childern that we raised the same way. and you know there is a real peace in knowing that u have treated someone fair, and you know it comes back ten-fold! speaking of it coming full circle,,,, the next time u feel u have gotten ripped off,,, u might wonder--- is this the screwing i am getting for the screwing i gave!?

    Uh...just wait a minute. I said not everyone selling a car is 100% honest. How do you take from that, that I'm condoning dishonesty or unethical behavior?

    Yes, when I was younger I bought cars from private sellers that were less than honest. I speak from experience. But nothing in any of my posts suggests or should suggest that I am condoning in any way not being honest.

    I'm supporting not being "insulted" while negotiating. I'm supporting working in your best interest in making a car deal. But read my posts and tell me where you get that I'm saying anything about not being honest?

    Infact, when I was young, I did get ripped off in a few private car deals...as a buyer. Mostly just being young and inexperienced. But what I did? Well those lemon cars, or problem cars, I usually ended up fixing them up, investing a lot of money into them, but then being so sour on the whole experience that I would turn around and HONESTLY sell the now fixed car, at a loss.

    Anyway, I said I'm not easily insulted...and I'm not. But really...read my posts. I'm not saying anywhere that anyone should be dishonest. You do have to protect you own interests, and I do think in negotiating a deal, there is nothing wrong with trying to negotiate the best deal for yourself.

    And the truth IS that NOT everyone selling a car is being 100% honest. That's not condoning the behavior....that's an evaluation of the real world.

    Don't know what he sold it for, but the price sounds high. I considered trading in my 2011 Prius 4 with 18,400 miles and in perfect condition for the plug in. The dealer only offered me $15,000 on the trade, so I did not do it. I may have been able to talk them up another $2,000, but they would not go anywhere near the KBB number of $21,000 for a trade. Considering that, $15,000 for an 76,000 mile car seems very high, even with a couple extra toys on the 5.

    Just because a dealer doesn't offer much ( depends how bad you want to get rid of a car or if you want to sell it yourself) doesn't mean a private sale ever goes that direction. Usually it is much more fairer to both parties.

    Yes that is a rip off! I recently got offered $12000 trade in for my '08 with 84,000 miles on it.

    I am looking to buy my first Prius and am trying to determine the significance of buying Toyota Certified. I know they do an inspection of the vehicle, but is it still worth paying the extra money to buy TC if the vehicle is under 3 years/36K miles?

    Certified vehicles are given an inspection based on Toyota's guidelines. I can't justify the added costs.
    Dealers pay more to have a car certified and they charge way to much for it. You could buy a new one and be
    better off, IMO.
