2010, 60K miles, bought 1month ago with Toyota certified warranty.

Call me crazy, but my Prius today started slipping in D and ICE ran non-stop for 1hr. My battery meter was at 90% charged and with end 1mile down to 2 bars.
The CVT felt like it was slipping too, I had to apply 1/4gas petal to move then my power range was in the POWER range the whole time.

    Any idea's ....

Btw, I had 0 check lights on and after the engine finally turned off the problem stopped.

It isn't a CVT and thus is unable to slip.

It is called a CVTe to try to differentiate itself from the crap cvts out there.

What did you let the ICE run for an hour? You could have turn off the car.

This is just my guess. It could be a computer problem and rebooting it may help.

To be fair it sounds like the HV battery was overheating. Is the vent blocked? Was anyone sat in the seat next to the vent?

I wonder if it does it again whether the HV battery is shot. :(

I can't help to much, I have not heard of anyone having anything like what you described post here.

But, I think someone will chime in, but I'm sure they will need some more info, Like ,Type of roads, speed, Air conditioning settings, outside temps. flat roads, hills, how many other passengers. You get the idea, they will need to know, to try to help you. I hope this helps a little!

    Just me in Prius
    Temp 91
    Road FLAT
Nothing in backseat, cargo area and vent clear. Only weight in car was me (220pounds).
Started from Start, Speed 10mph for the first 1/2 mile, then 30nph (my top speed 20mph) for 1/4mile, stop light onto no traffic hwy 65mph but I could only go 20mph for 1/2mile.
Then I just parked the Prius and waited for the engine to turn itself off, mean while that short trip sucked the battery all the down to 2 bars, maybe do to I had to floor it just to go.

Other info, my last tank I only average 268miles. This tank I can barely hit 32mpg.

Other info, it has been taking awhile to charge the HV and seems to discharge at fast rate. This compared to my other GENII Priuses I have owned. I have no idea what is normal for this GEN yet, I only had the car for less then 1month.

Looks like Dealership in the morning :(

From what I have read so far
The first 1/4 peddle or so is the HV system, then ICE kicks in. Seems that I had no electric motor until I floored it, then ICE kick in and powered up the system.
    RRrrrrrr

I would think just about anything it is, will be covered under theToyota certified warranty.
    Let us know what happens!

    Good luck!

Just be ready to fight the dealer when they tell you the car is fine, no error lights / codes.

Anyone think it could be the inverter? When mine went pop it at the transition between the motors at 45 mph or so. The car then crawled along on the electric for half a mile until safe to pull over. The car would drive on electric but wouldn't fire the engine.

Could this issue of the ops be the other side of the inverter that's failed? Or is it most likely his HV battery thats gone?

Whenever I let go the brake pedal, there's a low humming sound coming from under the hood. The manual said it's normal and it has something to do with the electrical system. If you don't have that sound, it could be a problem.

I bought the car in San Antonio (Cavender Toyota), I plan on taking it in to the on Research here in Austin.
Today the car acted find on take off, but at 45ish mph I could glide. When I applied the peddle the power bar shot to the power area. The mpg gauge went from 100mpg to 2bars. This was on FM620 between 183 and Anderson mill area. ITs pretty flat. I'm calling the dealership.

Btw, the only reason why I bought the Prius in San Antonio was because the original owner bought it there ad had all maintenance was done there.

I'm starting to wonder if it was traded in due to this issue, and if the dealership knew about a service issue that wasn't reported on the report.

Park your car on a driveway with with a slight incline. Put it in N and release all brakes. The car should roll easily. If not, you might have stuck brakes.

Everything else with the computer / drivetrain, should trigger a warning message of some sort.

Please keep us posted on this issue. I am very curious to find out the root cause.

When you say peddle, do you mean gas pedal?
There could be some lost in translation, but if I understand you correctly, the car works fine.
This is what I understood from your post:
You started driving low speeds EV only with AC on. The battery got exhausted quickly due to EV use and AC on a hot day. Then you had no electric motor boost and ICE ran 100%. The battery charged back slowly due to heavy AC use.

Next time, don't force EV, let the car do its thing and you will be fine.

I agree. The inverter pump may be starting to fail and the system is protecting itself by lowering power to/from the HV. Have you taken the cover off the inverter coolant tank and checked for movement?

    Eclipse1701d,
Has a good Idea Have your nearest dealer check the inverter water pump.
