Sounds like Accord Hybrid will be pricey, I'll bet $35k sticker loaded up.

According to above, might see 51 mpg combined, (40 x 30) / 23.4 ??

 

Not surprised by the price. Their 2 motor hybrid requires big and powerful motors along with the power inverter.

 

35k would be same as loaded hycam.

 

The MotorTrend article of guy driving it around Tokyo claims the car really tries hard to keep the gas engine off around town. Big motors, but still only a 1.3 kWh battery. Methinks the gas engine will need to kick on to keep up with US acceleration habits around town.

Seen a few posts on Honda Accord Plug-in Forum | Accord Plugin Forum and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Car news of HAP owner getting well into 40s in CS mode on long trips. Pretty dead site though, can hear crickets there.

Honda has a long slog on their hands to make something of hybrids. IMA needs to go soon. Can't imagine gas engine kicking on just by letting foot off the brake ... then A/C shuts off when stopped, yuck.

Video is all in Japanese but has some underhood views. Interesting the 12V battery is underhood in both Hybrid and plug-in, not in trunk.

Will be some US videos in a month. I say we're getting better looking front end on the Hybrid.

Indeed, the comparison tests will be brutal MT has already done a fairly long review, one which puts the AH on longer highway drives at speeds that show the low mark. No question, the reviewers test the hybrids now and TRY to get high mileage. Most reviewers are still not as focused as consumers, so most of the test reviews should be a little lower than Fuelly sites. But in most of the tests, the Toyota hybrids have achieved great results.

I hope they point out the near hilarious difference between their results and the sticker numbers. The Prius, V, and CH did very well in most every report.

I went on the forum you highlighted, and it's getting more traffic. The poster on the New Tire technology made me laugh. We had a flat on our Camry hybrid awhile back. Puncture in a parking lot, flat as a pancake. Funny how modern tire tech could't deal with it Thankfully, the Camry has a donut available.

 

I our previous Civic Hybrid also had the 12 volt battery under the hood. It is traditional.

It makes for less wiring I would think. Also allows the use of cheaper traditional battery type: I recently purchased the Honda replacement battery, over the parts counter for $135. Versus $235 the lowest quote I've got for a Prius 12 volt, again through Toyota parts department.

 

hycam is under the hood. i think they only go to the trunk for space or balance.

And it also saves on manufacturing keeping the battery in the same place between engine options.

 

In the 2013 TCH, the battery is in the trunk and it's always in the way of large suitcases/boxes or whatever you seem to want to haul that barely fits.

Yes, the 12V battery sits in a compartment on the right side of the trunk and is covered by a black plastic box. It takes up the space above the right wheel well.

 

now i'll have to look. the gen I was under the hood. i thought.

 

dang, you're right! if you think that's bad, you should have seen the gen I trunk, this one looks cavernous!
