I just purchased a 2007 Prius TE last week and have been thrilled with it in every way except the very old nav maps. I purchased an original nav update disc from an online Lexus dealer for a decent price. The disc arrived and it was a factory "pressed" disc, not a home made burned disc.

I powered on to "ready", changed to "nav" and ejected the original disc. I inserted the new update disc, the system reset and looked like it was applying the update then I got an "unable to read map disc" error.

Attached are the original disc which still works and the update disc from the dealer. He confirmed it should be the correct one for my '07 Prius. He asked I send it back for testing, replacement, and or refund. Are the Prii that difficult to update the nav maps? Any tips?

It's simple to update the gen2, just use the correct update, I'd ask for my money back and go to a Prius dealer and get a prius update, irregardless of the Lexus- Toyota relationship.
Toyota now get's 165$ for the updates, they come out every fall, I'd be tempted to wait for the new version this year.

Are you saying I got the incorrect disc?

Looks like an incorrect DVD. U37 is for a Gen III

I heard you can't go by the U numbers and have to use the part number on bottom of disc. 86271-53021 was my original disc. Several internet website listed 86271-53027 as the update I believe. Notice the number is the same except for the last 2 numbers which indicate version. At least that's what I've found so far. I'm looking for an expert to chime in here and maybe help other people upgrading their nav as well.

As I was digging around, someone on Amazon said the dot grid had to have the same color of dots. I have NO idea if that is true or not, but you might want to ask the seller if he has one with blue dots.

if you want the correct disc, give the parts department the following number. 86271-GEN05-12

    86271-GEN06-12 is for 2010+ Prius

I googled 86271-GEN05-12 and came up with the same disc I took a picture of in my first post (see link below). The compatibility list did not include a 2007 Prius (or any Prius). The disc also was not recognized either.

    I appreciate the help though.....

The part I gave you is correct. They don't show prius in the list...don't know why. I have an 06 and the disc(gen 5) worked fine.

So I have the correct disc but I get an error when I put it in the drive under seat. Does that mean the drive is bad? Don't make any sense because the old disc works still. Maybe a firmware issue?

Congrat's on your find on your new to you Prius. I hope you have great luck with it.

FWIW, you may be better off investing in a new Garmin Nuvi that comes with lifetime updates. From what I have heard about the onboard nav system in the Prius, it lacks a little here and there. I can't speak for myself as the package #2 we have does not come with the nav system. However I have found that the Garmin Nuvi is a very good product. It comes with free updates for life. Just a thought as I noticed you are having trouble trying to update the onboard nav unit.

    Welcome to Prius Chat!

The stock disc does work yes. The one listed for a 2007 Prius does not. Can someone with a Prius Gen 5 nav take a picture of their disc please?
