MPG after 1 year--New Continental Pro-Contact w/Ecoplus v. OEM

    I got new tires about a year ago, and I seem to remember F8L and maybe someone else asking me to check back in after a year with the new Continental Pro Contact with Ecoplus.

    Continental ProContact with EcoPlus 46.3 mpg over about 11800 miles (about 1 yr of driving).
    vs.
    Orig. Equip. Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max 47.1 mpg over about 46000 miles (about 2 1/2 yrs of driving).

    Mileage down about 0.8 mpg.

    Now, I don't consider this very scientific. This year was different from the previous 2+ years--as you can see, I drove a good bit less. Much of the change came from replacing some 35 mile commutes with 5 mile trips from cold start. So I suspect some of the difference came from that. On the other hand, on the freeway, I feel like I've slowed down an average of 1 or 2 mph, so that would cut the other way.
    So you can take this for what it's worth.

    The ProContacts do well in emergency stops.

    I replaced my OEM Goodyears with Conti PureContacts a couple weeks ago. I've only run one full tank through the car and MPG appears to have dropped about 3-4 MPG to 46-47 MPG. I'll reserve MPG judgment for a few more tankfuls and playing with tire pressure.

    However, wet traction is greatly improved and the lack of composure on grooved pavement is eliminated. Some folks here have complained that the tire runs rough, but it seems fine to me.

    Good to know they are not too rough. Maybe they are more acceptable in the smaller sizes. They are a great tire overall. I really want them for my Volt but I'm scared to try a 17" again. :p

    How do they feel compared to your Goodyears? I have the same Fuel Max tires on the Volt and I hate them.

    So far, so good, but I'm not one of these tire guys who can really see the depth of the groove to 1/32 of an inch, or really knows how to divide handling characteristics into those produced by the tires and those produced by other parts of the car.
