Ahh, makes sense now. It's not a fix it ticket only if they catch you while parked.

You could just remove the front bumper...

Reminds me of 70s working in Caracas, VW Beetles, thieves would pop the hood steal the spare. A friend padlocked a chain around the bumper and the hood lift handle... within a week, the bumper, the hood, the chain, and the lock were gone... the spare was untouched.

Or maybe Miley Cyrus could lend you her "big hand," switch around the big finger... using the same holes, just bolt 'er right up....

I have an 09 and at that point the front plate was dealer installed. I bought the car in RI where front plates are required but was living in PA where you just get a rear plate. I had the salesperson write into my sales agreement that the front mount would not be put onto the car and I had no problem with that.

I grew up in MA where the old plates were just on the back and were grandfathered in so while they stopped issuing them back about 1990 they are still on a lot of cars. Newer plates were a different color and were issued in pairs. The issue with the new plates was that people would "split" them - put one plate on the back of two different cars. In places where this is prevalent the cops and meeter maids are pretty vigilant.

Back around 99 there was a driver in my folks neighborhood in Cambridge who had a pretty slick work-around. He had a new 911 and instead of drilling into the bumper for a mount he had a perfect looking, full size sticker or static cling where the plate goes. I have never seen it done since. It must have cost him a fair bit as this was before commercial vinyl printers were common.

My guess is that plates on the front and back will become standard everywhere as toll roads go to all electronic tolls and speed and red light cameras grow even more prevelant.

Thanks! (Sorry, was racing at Thunderhill this past weekend and didn't see until now).

Actually, it did have an OD, but we swapped it out for a standard 4 speed. My dad's friend wanted to put the OD transmission into his race-car and so my dad convinced me to let him have it.

'54 BN1 Healey, standard fitment 3-speed with O/D... weird setup, but I loved flipping that O/D toggle switch on the facia... dropped down a few hundred rpm... all with that "Healey sound." But unlike you, I didn't have the foresight to keep it.

P.S. The red TR2 in town was faster :)

Almost didn't, and my wife often questioned the logic of a car under a cover in the driveway that hasn't moved in 10 years, and a shed full of parts. However, it had a lot of memories tied to my father as he and I restored it together about 30 years ago. When he passed away last Dec at 69 from Alzheimer's, it clicked with her. I look forward to restoring it with my son in about 3-4 years.

I was talking to the guy who tinted my windows about front license plates and he said one way to get away with not having one is to leave the dealer sticker on the windhshield. When the people issuing tickets see that, it sorta takes the place of a front plate. He said he has kept his on there for 3 years (even though he received his plates and installed the rear one), with no issues.

Unfortunately, I peeled that off the windshield the day I got my plates in the mail because I didn't want to advertise for the dealership.

My RX350 has been front license plate-less since new and no ticket to date. It still has the temporary registration sticker on the windshield, but I don't think that's the reason. RX350s just don't attract attention. In contrast, I've been stopped a number of times in my Mustangs for not having a front license plate.

That's more an issue of getting attention and being stopped for speeding, or whatever. A cop will always check if you have a front plate or not in that scenario.

But around here (Northern Cal), the cities are checking cars while parked and giving tickets for no front plate. If you have the dealer sticker on, apparently they give it a pass.

I wonder if I can obtain one of those dealership window stickers anywhere?

    True.

So, thank you for taking up this tax burden, so I don't have to pay more! :sneaky:
