I saw a previous post about this but it was very old. Wanted to see if anyone could offer insight. On my 2010 prius, I recently had my windows tinted. Seems I have lost the single beep when locking the doors. I still get two beeps when unlocking. I also get the double lock when I put the car in gear. But I am having no issues with any of the door locks sticking. smart key isn't working as it was. When I walk up the the drivers door, the inside light would illuminate, that does not happen now.

I would appreciate any thoughts / suggestions.

What kind of tint did you put on the car ? :)

The only thing that I can think of is the fob battery. Have you changed the fob battery since you have had the car? Maybe the fob battery was borderline weak and the tint was enough to put it over the edge ??

Well, I thought that too...so I tried the other key fob, same thing. It unlocks fine when I push the unlock button. It will unlock when I walk to the car; the inside lights no longer come on. When I press the lock button, I hear it lock 2 times, no beep or no turn signal blink. Also..double locking when I put it in gear.

I know I'm repeating myself, just kinda at a loss.

Maybe the the tint is too dark so now you can't see the darn light on? haha... just kidding :)

On a serious note, check to see if the tint person turn the interior light switch to off. They tend to do that to avoid too much battery drainage because of the tinting process which requires opening of window. Hope this is the case.

Still thinking about the lock beep thing...

Tint film with metallic content will interfere with the smart keys as well as cell phones and bluetooth.

Hence the question: What kind of film?

It's 3M tint... but it is guaranteed not to interfere with any type of electronic devices. I have no issues with it unlocking or anything. No issues with my cell phone / bluetooth. Everything else is fine.

The dome light will only illuminate when all doors are locked when you approach the car. If a lock operation is not successful, it will try to re-lock, hence the double locking.

Have you physically check that all doors are locked? I suspect one of the door lock (including the trunk) may be stuck in the unlock position or wire harness came loose. I'd suggest taking your key out of the detection area and try to open all doors to see if they are actually locked.

That is actually one of the first things I checked. All of the doors are locked, including the hatch. When I unlocked all the doors... I confirmed that they are all unlocked.

Have you tried opening the driver's window slightly before locking the car and then trying it again? This would help eliminate the window tint interfering with the SKS.

Interesting development, I go out to the car today and everything is working the way it should. No more double locking and I have the lock beep back. I'm wondering if maybe something got wet and subsequently dried over the last few days. In any case, hopefully there will be no further problems. Thanks everyone for responding.

It's very possible something got wet during the tinting application. They use a lot of soapy water in the tinting process.

I own two prius's 2010 and 2008. What this is, is your car cannot fully lock. One of your door lock actuators is faulty and will not move your unlocked door into the lock position. Your car is locking the remaining functioning locks, but it cannot set the alarm, because one of your doors is still unlocked.

As prius's get older, their automatic door actuators fail. There is a little motor inside them that quits. I have replaced 3 doors and 1 hatch on my 2010 that were faulty. Now my passenger rear door is doing it. I have had this problem in the past so I know what to look for.

it you cant make your car beep when you lock it. Place your key faub away from your car. Now go and check all your doors. You will find one of them will be unlocked. If there is not one unlocked, it maybe half way inbetween. Now open your car and inside lock all the doors. Check to see they are all locked. Now using the door lock inside, unlock them, you will find that one of them will not open. That's the one.

The whole part is around $300 and another $150 to change. There is a great prius owner on here, that pointed us all to the motors that you can buy from China for about 5 dollars. Thats what I did. I replaced all my motors in my actuators for under $20. Just find someone who can help you and do one yourself. You will need a solding gun to solder a couple of leads, but other than that, its just being meticulous that you open and close it properly.

    Thats it. Its an actuator.

    Best Regards
