From what I understand the Apple does not read the entire finger print just a very small portion up to 4 data points.

I also understand the feature can be disabled and traditional 4 digit pin can be used

Biometric pass code has been around awhile. Lenovo uses it

The iPhone 5S OS 7 is the only smartphone using 64 Bit Technology which is 4 times faster than 32 bit technology employed by the competition.

This is a screaming phone. Can't wait to see the performance benchmarks.

You can get a better price on eBay than Gizelle when selling your phone. In my case who wants the hassle. Best Buy or the Apple Store will take the trade in at a reasonable price on your old phone and you don't have to hassle with the creeps on Craigslist. Police sometimes report of Craigslist crimes where people meet and get robbed. Not worth the risk. If you eant to go this route meet in a public place for example Starbucks.

Hey bud your 3 revisions behind and I'm 2. I will be upgrading.

I've sold all my old iPhones, for more than they cost me, on ebay when I've upgraded. It's risky business on ebay with all the scammers, but doable if you are a regular ebay user.

Even if you only get 1/2 of what it cost you from Apple or Gazelle or whatever it's a fairly solid deal. What other electronics have that kind of resale?

If the government wants to track you they can track you, no matter what you do, so why get worried about it?

I'm very upset. No wireless charging ? You lost a great sale point, apple. Who cares about faster processor if the old one was fast enough?

And " more affordable" 5c is $550 without contract. Really?
    Time to sell AAPL.

I have never paid for a phone, and do not plan to. This is the first year I have ever paid for cell service. I would have to sharpen one of my fingers to use a touch screen phone anyway.

Alex Apple has never and never will be the cheapest smartphone on the market. If price is your only buying criteria Apple is not your product. Apple is the quality product. They protect the operating system by being the sole developer and they also control the handset specifications and control which carriers can carry and create uniformity. Android releases it's OS to various handset manufacturers who change based on there requirements, carriers further change thus the customer experience is not uniform and the phone is wide open to malware and botnets.

Apple's fingerprint scanner is actually not a entire fingerprint but rather just 4 data points. The user controls that software and can choose to not evoke it and use standard alpha numerical passwords

Wireless charging is a hot button and Apple has a few patents. Apple keeps it's future under wraps and all employees are under strict NDA non disclosure agreements.

Patent researchers have found numerous patents on wireless charging thus one can assume wireless charging may be in the future.

I for one always assumed Apple would embrace NFC Near Field Communications to bolster it's passport platform most notable Wallet but although the standard is available Apple continues to not make this state of the art.

For awhile the buzz was you can leave your wallet at home and your iPhone can be your wallet with ID, insurance, registration, drivers license, ability to purchase using debit card, credit card etc and seem less integration with all retailers. It seems Twitter founder is on that quest and Paypal and google wallet but the solution is not prime time.

2 of the 3 current solutions run on Apple OS thus Apple customers will have choice.

I think I convinced my wife to buy an off-contract iPhone 5s she will use with StraightTalk, and she will hand me down her iPhone 3GS. The attraction for her will be an improved camera and the fingerprint passcode. I think she will also very much appreciate the improved and larger screen, but that remains to be seen.

There is one bit of foolishness in all this I keep scratching my head over: she is not willing to pre-order the phone because she wants to see the metal colors in person before choosing. Fair enough you might say, but she plans to slap it into a case first thing <<shrug>>. Perhaps I'll try to negotiate her down to a bumper.

I understand about quality and price.... I just was expecting more of a price reduction for supposedly lower level phone. It came out not so much of a lower level, with not so much of a price reduction.
I do always buy my phones unlocked, therefore i was interested in real price. Not a $99 with 2 year (every month of which you will pay $100+) contract.

Sage my wife and I said the same. Choices choices. We were told on the 20th of this month we can see the phone on display. I have an Apple store close to my home I'll stop by on Saturday and see if they have dummy units with colors.

Many carriers still sell the older versions at reduced cost. One model is zero cost on a 2 year contract at AT&T

    Aleksa,

Your solution seems obvious: buy JMD's 4s for ~ $170. I gather it is a GSM phone.

I plan to trade it in for a Best Buy gift card which will offset the new purchase.

Hopefully they won't notice it did a half a cycle in my pants pocket in the Washing Machine a year ago. Phone works fine so it will pass the inspection.

AT&T offers a new IPhone 5s 16 GB nothing down $27 per month + service and after 1 year you can upgrade again. Basically it's the $199 + $125 early termination fee. You get to keep the phone and if you sell it you pay the cost of the next phone. That us the rumor the official pricing will be made on or before the 20th

Interesting deal at Best Buy. Considering I paid less for this phone 2 years ago.

Apple announced today that fingerprint information in encrypted and stored on the A7 processor chip and not stored on the cloud or any data center or computer. Privacy and security was the number 1 priority for Apple

Thanks! But no, I'll wait for now. I have a decent phone, but wanted something like 5 with wireless charging. Apple moved everything to wireless, no need to connect cable for updates or setup...but why do I still need to plug it in once or sometimes twice a day for charging ? It's 21 century now :)
