My 2010 Prius III started having some trouble with the key fob so I took both keys with the car to the dealer. The dealer lost one key while checking out the remotes. We both looked everywhere but could not find the second key. Fast forward to today -- when locking the car with one fob in my pocket and touching the driver's side door sensor, the car reports that there is a key in the vehicle.

Question: I have looked in all of the obvious places that I can think of inside the car. Are there any ways to detect the fob frequency? Places it might hide? Is it normal behavior for the car to not lock by the touch sensor if the key is in the car? (the existing fob will lock and start the car just fine)

The dealer reported that they left both keys on the dashboard when I picked up the car. The only key I found was in the cup holder.

Check really close along side and under both front seats. Especially the drivers seat, along the slides, lots of little places to hide. One other driver could not find his fob and had checked many times along the rails and seats, day's later thier it was along the rail, so look really close.

Never mind where it is (it's in the car). Where's the free replacement that the dealer owes you?

Same year and model type, they offer free key replacement? Just found out key fob 2 has a broken key hook (?) . Bought it pre certified from Toyota dealer.

no, but they lost the o/p's if you read his post, and they should be responsible to replace it.

Update: The dealer did replace the electronic key -- still have to see about the physical key replacement. I could simply move on but have noted that the driver's door touch lock mechanism now states that the key is in the car and will not lock it except by using the existing key fob button.
I have searched the seats, rails, removed plastic covers to check, used a flash light, looked underneath the mats, in the back seat, around the audio amp under passenger seat... any ideas of other places to look? The smart key emits a certain frequency when near the car, right? (isn't this how the car knows where the key is?)
    Any new ideas to try?

    Not a good Idea!
But, did anyone turn the fob side ways and put it in the center air vent, it does slide in about halve way and being dark does kind of blends in.
This is really out there! :)

Check in between the top seat cushion and lower cushion. Check storage box, glove box, back area. Check uNder the floor mat, between seats and console. Rear seats.

    Good luck.

The fob does have a small LED that blinks when you lock the doors. Worth a look around under the seats in the dark. Its in there somewhere.

Long shot but check the windshield cowl and around the engine compartment. I often forget tools there when working on my vehicles.

go back to the dealer and make them find it or fix it. I would not for one minute look myself or try and figure it out. They ****ed it up, they can fix it. I am not polite when it comes to crap like this.
