Lexus LF-NX . . . Uh, not my cuppa

So I was reading some of the Frankfort Auto Show news and came across the Lexus LF-NX.

Another high-power, hybrid system hopefully with improved mileage. Good start but then I am not a fan of auto styling. I think too much is made of what is to my eye, sheet-metal art. But it can be 'not good:'

My nearly useless 'artistic' sense is in full-tilt "NO WAY!"

    Problems:
    • driver has no visual clue to the front bumper location - can we get a downward pop-up mirror to see where the bumper is relative to the curb and other cars?
    • Cubism - on canvas, maybe, but on the road? Could we add some serrated, knives and hatchets? That way if we hit a deer, it'll be field dressed by the time it hits the pavement.
    • radiator grill - is so anti-hybrid that it screams 'I AM THE BIGGEST, BADDEST, ENGINE ON THE ROAD' and not the advanced hybrid Zen inside.
Look, everyone has a bad day, even me. Yesterday, I started at 6:00 AM and was on short sleep. So when some problems showed up Thursday during an activity, I didn't handle them as well as I did Friday morning after a good night's sleep. So maybe this was just a Lexus 'bad hair day' but these Lexus photos really look 'not good' to me and I have no artistic taste . . . just ask my wife.

So what looks good to me? Curves are a good place to start. The F-117 was angular assembled from spare parts for a purpose but the B-1, now that is a plane both artful and purpose built. The Lexus stylist team needs to think more kimono and less samurai warrior helmet.

The mirror only helps when there is a bumper.

This thing is pure concept. It's a study in design, and maybe engineering, art to create buzz, and get people talking about the brand.

That's the smart forjoy. It's real pretty, but will never go into production in that form.

Your 'artistic' sense is not wrong, the best overall crit I can give is that it's over designed.

I have long wondered when we'll see a car with the belt line raised to within six inches of the roof.

    Almost there now.

To be fair, some of the other concepts shown at Frankfurt probably should never be shown again:

Nissan Juke is not a joke (near?)...

After this POS, any other SUV seems reasonable...

Sometimes I think people try to make the uggliest car. If this has been the goal, nissan is quite good at it. This lexus though is really strange looking, and IMHO not in a good way. It looks like a 9 year old was playing with cad software.

Put a cow catcher on the front (it's halfway there already), and use it in the next Mad Max movie.

Nissan's whole lineup, excluding the Skyline, usually makes me want to throw up. The Murano, Rogue, and Juke give crossovers a bad name, and their sedans are just turning into oversized ricers.

lol. robotic puppets done to dub step to sell a luxury crossover hybrid. No problem with lexus building a smaller luxury crossover hybrid, it might sell better than the rxh.

Its just the design is so, IMHO fugly. Let's look at a harsher opinion.
Lexus LF-NX Concept takes aim at the small crossover herd [w/video] - Autoblog

Now I'm not quite as negative, but why make it look like that. The i3 looks quite bad IMHO, but not nearly as bad as this. How about one more opinion.
