I wouldn't worry about it. I took a rental Prius a couple years ago and ran 100+ mph for a hell of a long ways on I-75 in Michigan. The car handled excellent with zero problems maintaining that speed. If you are in a safe area to drive at higher speeds, then so be it.

Tons of Prii in Michigan earlier this week. Around here in Minnesota there are zero people that are interested in working the software over. I have spoke to a few shops around the country as well as a group of guys in Japan and the story is either we haven't tried to even read the code to we have looked at it but it was so encrypted that we gave up. Oh well... I know nothing about writing code so I can't even begin to think about changing things :(

Reduce or turn the electric motor torque limiting completely off. On my other summer car I had some changes done to the software to support hardware mods and the suggestion of the tuning shop was to turn off the torque limiting and what a difference that made for acceleration. I use right foot traction control on that car now ;) Works great.

    That
That would be great mod but I would much rather do it on my lexus rx400h as that twice as much torque

You're 17 NOW and this was a while ago and your profile says you're 32. Well, now this is getting confusing. What's the driving age where you are? However, it's commendable you've given up the speed runs. Given what happened to you, I can't see how you wouldn't. You're damn lucky you didn't kill yourself and others but I'm sure you know that. If you're really 17, I soften my reprimand because it's more understandable than if you were 32. It was plenty crazy of me to try it at 17 as well, especially since it was in a 1972 AMC Gremlin that was rather aerodynamically unstable at even 82 MPH. In one sense it was less risky because it predated the 55 mph speed limit on many roads and the cops were less watchful in 1972. But it was still a stupid thoughtless thing for me to try, particularly in such a NON-performance car. And though the Prius is better, it's still no performance buggy. Okay man, peace to you.

I'm in Cali and it was in last January about a month after getting my license and 3 days after getting a new insurance policy and I have impreza STI that does all the performance now but only like once a month the plugin prius is just a cool thing and a awesome gas saver so driving to college and back is no gas costs

There is a bit of intended irony in my first post, admonishing you for the pointlessness in admonishing someone else. If someone has made up their mind about doing something (driving recklessly, admonishing someone), then there is no point to admonish them. If the person proceeds ahead and discovers the bad consequences of their actions, then there is still no point in admonishing them, since they have first hand experience which is far more compelling than someone telling them how dumb it was.

The second bit of unintended irony is that you admitted to driving recklessly at the age of 17, only to discover that the person here was also 17 (or younger) at the time of their poor decision.

If there is no point in admonishing a person for something they have already done, or are determined to do regardless, then the only purpose is to build the status of the admonisher as being a wise teacher, and above doing foolish things. It's an act of pride. This brings me to the last bit of irony. While I would like to say that I am above pride-fullness, my 2 posts have been to vainly admonish in the attempt to establish myself as a sage teacher, while boosting my own pride.

It just goes to show that everyone is human. We make mistakes, act in pride, and hopefully find some humility and grace.

I believe that terminal velocity for non-aerodynamic objects, including your tumbling Prius, under STP conditions is around 120 MPH. Once you roll it out the back of the plane, the tires and driver are optional.

Looking at the smooth under panel and overall wing shape of the car, I was wondering if it would create lift rather than downforce at high speeds and thus go airborne like some of the old, pre-wing Porshe sedans would.
I also give credit to him for fessing up--hard for me to admit dumbass driving stunts. I'm sure he was very unhappy trashing an efficient, 200-300,000 potential mile car, too.
But if we want to try these things, we really should keep all this on racing tracks rather than public roads and be properly equipped with helmet, nomex , 5-point harness, etc.

Not to detract from the seriousness of your post, but the image of someone trying to race an old Gremlin had me chuckling. NONE of the cars of that era were aerodynamically shaped to provide downforce at high speeds as far as I know, so we were all nuts to take them out to "see what she'll do" or "blow the carbon out" etc etc and so forth.
