I don't use Skype on my home PC due to open port virus issues. However it seems to work on my iPhone. Does it present a security issue on my iPhone?

Google phone you establish a phone number and it follows a protocol to call forward to another number.

Skype you make phone calls or do video chat or do instant messaging. You can't do that with Google.

I doubt it, if only because the iPhone is remarkably malware free.

I have a Google Voice set up and never seen that capability albeit a few years since I used it. Is that a new offering or did I just miss that?

Google+ is a facebook type app. The chat/IM/voice/video is part of Google 'voice,' although I usually access it from my list of contacts in gmail.

Picture to follow ... by PM, since it has personal info I am too lazy to erase.

Ok Google +,I was thinking Google Voice.

OK a social networking application with communications capability.

Can I call someone outside the network I.e. Who does not gave a Google + account?

The integration of Google 'voice' with Gmail is wonderful. I cannot speak to it's integration into Google+ since I do not use that app. As I said though, call quality is hit or miss, at least to landlines.

My wife seems quite satisfied using Skype in a computer to computer setup when she calls Israel.

A 3rd alternative is to use Facetime audio only, if you know the other party has a (newer) iPhone.

    Choices, choices :)
In your case though, I am not sure what personal VoIP offers you since you already have an expensive plan with AT&T. I keep trying them out of curiosity, and because I do not have my cell phone on or nearby when I am not at work. I pretty much limit people's access to me to email when I am home. VoIP is for me to reach them.

I used FaceTime a few times as a test with my wife. In the beginning both had to be on wifi and have FaceTime application. Now Facetime is available on LTE.

I'll bring up Google + among my office team. But they prefer the path of least resistance unless something is broken or amazingly better.

I'll check it out for personal use.

Integration is tighter in the Google apps, but I doubt one service has a much better codec than the other. Over time I just cannot see any company beating Google and/or open source at low level programming or web based apps.

Oh-oh, Apple gave me too much time to think about it. I cancelled my order. Started to seem like a waste of money, and decided I'd rather wait for a new form factor (I've never warmed up to the slab). Maybe they'll get my money when the new ipad comes out!

Wow, this conversation between JMD and Sage is confusing me and I use the two discussed services. Just to clear the air (or muddy the waters).

I use Google Voice as a VOIP home phone. I get a regular phone number for free that can dial out and receive from anyone. I added a $50 OBI110 box to my router so that the computer need not be on to use it. In this way, it acts like a phone number from the cable company. I even bought a cordless phone to plug into it. I've had it for 2 years and the service has been fine.

Oh and Google Voice does a lot of other things but this is the only portion I am using at the moment.

FaceTime does not require LTE. DW uses FaceTime with her 4s on Verizon which does not support LTE. Less than 3G you talk to a static image that refreshes once a minute or so but still works.

Anyone try iTunes Radio yet? So far I think it's better than pandora. I especially like the "Bach and baroque" channel. :)

Tried, and liked. The integration with Siri was very cool.

I wish Apple had bought Pandora. That company was so innovative and worked so hard, I hope they profit from their efforts.
