Wondering in anyone can recommend a good product or even a good technique you use to wind up your EVSE cord to take it with you?

:)Might want to keep it simple (KISS). I use my Toyota EVSE at work, keeping it in the car. Lay the car plug on the ground near the car, hang the brick and plug it into the socket. Walk to the car and plug it in. Reverse the process after charging, gently looping the cord and place it on the rear shelf.

there is a thread here from someone who purchased and uses a reel, but i just coil mine up and put it in the hatch. a twist with each coil keeps it from kinking. about a 12" loop.

i leave mine plugged into the outlet tied to a Belkin conserve socket which shuts off after 3 hours charge. highly recommend it.

I replaced the EVSE power plug with a right-angle connector to keep it from pulling out of the socket.

At the office I have an outlet 3 ft off the ground. I drop the coiled cord and walk back and plug in the PIP. I coil the cord alternating the loops, first palm down, then palm up. For lunch I hang the coil next to the outlet, then re-plug in the PIP after lunch.

At home my yardlight next to the PIP has a horizontal bar I hang the loop on.

I toss the EVSE on the backseat on a towel. I used to use the back hatch compartment, but it was a pain opening and closing the hatch. Much easier just opening the driver-side back door.

Don't bother with any reels or coil management systems. Not needed.

Seems to me that many issues that you guys face might be usefully solved by moving to the UK:
    • Right-angled plugs with really beefy prongs as standard so no need to hang the brick up - just let it dangle, no harm will occur
    • 240V as standard so faster charging as standard without costly electrical installs
    • Really short EVSEs so no tiresome coiling issues (I do think that ours are shorter than yours, actually!)
    • Super-congested roads which means that you'll never go above EV speed, nor will you actually ever get very far, so never any prospect of using up all of that range and having to start the ICE
Do let me know if I can be of further assistance

Isn't there the small issue that public charging stations use a different receptacle (not a cord with a J1772 plug as in the U.S., and not the standard UK residential receptacle), and the adapter cord and plug costs the equivalent of several hundred U.S. dollars?

Putting the brick and the plug together, I place them close to the edge on my left side, vehicles left also, then make a large double loop to the right and back again to the left, with a bit left over. Basically it's 2.25 loops set in front of my doughnut on my lower shelf. Upper shelf is above my doughnut spare. ie: Normal storage.

There are a variety of connections - from standard 3-pin we use through different rapid charge connectors. Things are far from settled here, with differing protocols, competing providers etc (which is likely why I've never bothered to seek out a public point) - is that mirrored in the US?

Here's a London-based scheme backed by the London Mayor.

J1772 is the standard for L2 charging in the US. L3 quick charge is still a mess of three competing protocols. Hoping it will be sorted by the time I retire my PiP for a BEV.

I used to wrap my EVSE but far too often someone takes the closest spot at work to the outlet and I have to unravel. I just leave it a jumbled mess now. It's thick enough that it rarely tangles.

    Hill,

    My result is the same.

You grab the cord for the 2nd and every even loop with your left palm down and then twisting your left hand to reverse it and snatch the reversed loop your right hand.

Instead, grab the cord for the 2nd and every even loop with your left palm UP and then rotate your left hand to the right and snatch the loop with your right hand. So the 1st (and odd loops) is left hand down and the 2nd (and even loops) is left palm up.

was looking into the belkin conserve switch, but may consider the timer. do you get a full charge on your PiP in 3 hours? mine usually estimates 3.5 hours when I check, but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

I just roll it up into a big coil, as I do with the extension cords.

No way it takes 3.5 hours. Mine takes 2.5 or less.

It sounds like you are charging L 1 rather than 240v.
