I have a long commute, I drive 46 miles to and 46 mile home. It seems like at least once a week I am having to give some deserving idiot my middle finger. I then have to ask for forgiveness...But thinking that no one sin is greater then the next. Man I wish I could pit maneuver the idiot drivers. Sorry. Is it just the fate of a Prius owner to be driven up on and cut off by idiots who just have an axe to grind on small car drivers. Tonight I had a BMW 5 series nearly take my right fender off as he past me on the right. The right lane was ending, I got over anticipating that the lane would end. But this clown goes blowing by me at 15 mph over the speed limit. I could under stand if I was driving like an old man who only gets out and drives on Sunday mornings. But really what is going on out there. Is it just me or are others dealing with the same issue. It is almost to the point on installing a dash camera, but then I would need two. One for the front and one for the rear. Any ideas?

If he's blowing by you at 15 mph over the speed limit and on the right side, he could care less if you are a Prius or not.

He's just another BMW driver that thinks he owns the road. I've had the same thing happen to me many times as I drove my Saturn. We just seem to be more sensitive to it once we own a Prius  .

    Just my two cents.

Isn't this normal for some parts of SoCal?

There are a higher percentage of oblivious drivers than their are actual inconsiderate idiots who have a need to flex their hp. Pump up the music and try to blow it off; no reason to catch a case for road rage.

I drove like an idiot the other day, no apparent reason than just felt like going fast and moved over on a car after I passed it a little sooner than I probably should have, but I did signal  . I'm generally a pretty aggresive/defensive driver so the occassions I get offended on I chalk it up to karma. I usually don't have issues with the Bimmer's, it's the Volvo drivers that irritate the heck out of me; second would be the Prii drivers, lol.

You're right, John. as a member of two BMW groups, that BMW driver only knew they needed to get out of the ending lane and whistled by the Prius because he saw the chance. Done it myself more than once. Course if he was only 15 over the linit he was a weakling BMW pilot and likely why he 'nearly took a fender off'.
I've driving for 60 years and can easuily say today's drivers are far less competent than in the past and despite my personal intent are far less careful. Thats possibly the 'safety' advertised for cars now so too many think nothing can happen to them. Its like seeing the teen-age attitude of living forever extending into their 40's.
I teach driving to both high performance driving schools and to the elderly and the difference in attitude is astonishing. We might be better off with swords in our steering wheels than airbags.
when I get a youngster with a 500 hp Mustang I know its going to be a challenge to get them to understand charging into a corner and saving the car isn't the fast way to drive. That attitude on the street has to be significantly bad.
And naturally today's high powered cars in the hands of the inept is another reason for our fatality rate going up. Even my NASCAR and F1 knows smaller less powerful engines must be coming. Racing side by side at 100 is just as exciting as at 200.

My advice to every fellow Prissy driver is BE ALERT ! Know where the cars are coming up behind you and to either side because you are a small car, aka 'a moving traffic pylon'- tha must be passed. I modified my rear window wiper sililar to others so I can truly see out the back window in the rain and it has been useful more than once. Some big pickups just don't see the Prius.C. Toyota was asleep when they contnued to use rear wipers intended for RHD on LHD cars. I would be interested in satistics on prius C driver rear end accidents in the rail in the upper west where rain is common.

    Enough sermon today.
cheers. keep your eyes open . Enjoy 48 mpg !

    Yeah.
If you're wearing out your middle finger and fantasizing about pit-maneuvering other drivers????
You might have some maturity issues, and you may want to consider mass transit.

Spoiler Alert: You may also want to consider a beefier car if you're going to swap paint with the (other?) idiots on the road. I'm thinking that a trial-sized Prius isn't the tool you want to reach for when you're considering the Pitt maneuver.
Spoiler Alert: Dash cameras work both ways.
By this.....I mean that not only do most of them capture front and rear video, but they also tell both sides of the story.

Look....I ride motorcycles, and I have had the "privilege" of driving in SoCal for weeks at a time when I knocked holes in the ocean for a living, so I can relate but you're not going to solve this problem externally.
You'd need some authority, a better car, a badge and a radar gun to do that...and you know what????
It's still not going to solve YOUR problem.

    You have to share.
No.....people aren't "better" than you are because they have double your weight or triple your BHP.....but you're not "better" than they are because you have double their fuel economy.

    Ignore them.

Best advice you'll hear all day.

As a former motorcycle pilot (too old now and) I concur absolutely. If you want to know just how in danger you can be, pilot a motorcycle in NC traffic with beer guzzling pickenups at shift time. Driving a Prissy then seems like youre in a tank !

There is just one driver you control. Do not let them make you lose control.

Wanna really piss of whoever is behind you? Do what I did and install a brake light modulator on the third brake light.

After looking at that flashing red LED until the point of getting seizures, I understand why they must pass me anyway they can. I have these installed on my motorcycles too.

OK, "You might have some maturity issues, and you may want to consider mass transit." No that's not it. I just call out idiots when I see them. Don't worry I don't play video games all day and night and stock fire arms. The lane to my right, was the lane I had merged from as it had ended about 20 feet back. Beemer Boy just had to push it for his cheap thrill.

BMW's it what just the idiot of the moment. They usually drive large SUV's of Diesel Pickups as well.

I was rear ended while doing 60 mph in the slow lane on the freeway, over $10,000 in damage. It was a hit & run, Someone tried to chase but gave up after they hit 100 mph. I might be a little sensitive. I also have spent the last 20 years working in Insurance Claims and have had to call too many grieving family members in my day.

And YES California is the left coast and has more then its fair share of self center ego maniac's who do believe they are the only ones on the road during rush hour.

Some day's are harder then others, to just ignore them. Thank you all for your kind words. I just had to blow up. I feel better that I am not alone.

Are you in California, Absolutely? I drove through 8 states On my recent 5,000 mile vacation trip last month. The absolute worst drivers were in California; particularly on my stretch from Moronho Valley to Morro Bay on I 5.

A lot of bad drivers in Calif are not home grown; they move in fro other states. It is a mixed bag of local and imported maniacs. SoCal is way more aggressive than NorCal though. Every town/city has their cream of the crop fair share of inconsiderate drivers...most are all bark and no bite; but it only takes that one to create a minor incident into a felony event. Smoke some hash and you'll be fine.

There must be something wrong with BMWs....seems like everyone driving them in an extreme hurry to get to thier destination. Perhaps they can't stand being in thier car any longer than absolutely necessary then getting from point A to point B. Perhaps deep down inside, BMW owners hate sitting in thier car so much that as soon as they step inside it, it's a race to get to thier destination to they can get out of thier car quicker. :D

But it certainly is evidence in that direction.
