The wheels don't have the splines lined up exactly the same, even if you replace it with another OEM wheel. That's what adjusting the tie rods are for. If you're extremely lucky, the new wheel may have the splines lined up exactly the same as OEM by chance and you'll avoid alignment.

If you're uncomfortable installing it yourself, have a suspension or stereo shop install it. Toyota dealers would just overcharge you.

The dealer where I purchased the car has a "crew" that installs bolt on aftermarket parts for $65/hr, which is highly competitive and reasonable, particularly since they warranty their work. My 5K service is coming up, I'll likely have it installed then.

It's a 10 minute job for an experienced installer so don't let them overcharge you.

Well, it sounds like the dealership doesn't want to even touch it because it involves the airbag. I'll find someone else I suppose.

Out of curiosity, are these aftermarket steering wheels actual Toyota parts that have been re-wrapped? If so, are they stamped with a part number?

That's scary! How do they do *any* work in all the areas of the car that have airbags?

The airbag comes out in one unit and is the easiest part to remove. See JDM Prius Steering Wheel | PriusChat

It's not so much removing the airbag. They just don't want to reinstall the airbag into a non-Toyota part, for whatever illegitimate fear that the bag may malfunction in the new aftermarket wheel. Now if the product has a Toyota parts number stamped onto it, it would be different in their view.

True, they're doing it for "cover your nice person" liability reasons. All the more reason to install it yourself and it's not that difficult.
