It seems the consensus is that the PiP is the better of the Prius' for me. May is when I'll most likely buy and it can't come sooner!

So far you have no plan to charge a PiP, so until you get permission from your employer, I can't think of any reason to consider one.

Getting a driveway is in the picture. So that's still an option.

i would get the pip, you'll find places to charge it. i have seen people run ext. cords out to the street. and when you can't charge, you get better mpg's than the liftback anyway. you do have the perfect commute. mine is 14.5 miles and i make it on one charge spring thru fall. in the winter, i have to plug in at work for a half hour to make it home.

I think in your situation, you'd definitely benefit from the PIP. Your commute is ideal and the whole purpose of the plug-in is to enhance the gas mileage. So what if you don't make the last mile in EV? You'll still be getting a great deal more mpg than what you have now.

PiP is a good deal in MD you get $600 MD tax credit for 2013...not sure about 2014. (+$2500 Fed)
There were many super deals in MD last Fall, some on the Beltway, also Antwerpen if I recall. The lowest price we had last Fall was $25500 before taxes etc...that was NY but MD was close price.
Also MD is CARB state so you get the 150000 mile batt warranty.
Many are leasing right now due to great leasing deals.
Make sure you are OK with the minor negatives (no spare tire, sl smaller gas tank, few other nits).
It would not be a crime to get a PiP even if you had to drive on gaso once in a while due to less than optimal charging availability...that's where PiP is best plug-in for you. May? sooner w/ great deal?

Those sound like some pretty good deals. I would be looking at the fully loaded PiP which according to the website MSRP's for around $40k. I'm waiting til May because my wife finishes nursing school then and right now we only have 1 car payment.

With the new price drop I would say go for the base model PIP. It comes well equipped and with incentives it would be as cheaper or cheaper than a model Three. Kind of a no-brainier then.

ill have to look into the differences between the base and premium models. but the base being so cheap is appealing.

yea looks like the base model has everything im used to in my Subaru....navi, back up cam, ipod hookup. would just need to add that auto-dimming mirror and i would be set.

I firmly believe that the new price drop won't really affect the actual price of the PiP that much. They just simply won't offer near as big of incentives. Classic car sales trick.

the current lease program, the car ends up at 25,550 total after buyout at lease end. For MY2014 I doubt even the new lower cost will come in that cheap until maybe next sept/october when they have another yr end blowout, always best to wait til fall.

and next fall will probably be the end of this GEN PiP, as rumours say the next GEN PiP will be out for MY2015.

well....that is why many like leasing, as they can turn in car to get the newest tech. and in the PiP's case, more EV range which is what most want. But from the renderings Ive seen, prius looks all new and doubt it will ever have the current cavernous rear cargo area(with seat down) which i currently am loving, i barely use my truck at all anymore!

Depends on what that tech offers. Maybe a larger capacity battery with longer range. Lane keep assist, which is available on the 5 model might get into the PIP by the as well.
