It is very annoying having your window open and there is a rattling sound. I not sure where it is coming from. Does anyone know if the dealership can take care of this problem?

they can't and will not fix anything like this for you. they don't make money from you and they don't make money from toyota. most toyotas i've ever been in squeaks and rattles. we all buy toyotas for the powertrain not the interior quality. mine rattles my ears off every day. thankfully i've lost some hearing due to all the rattles and i hear less now. you'll see over time taht rattles seem to "fade" away.

Thanks for the insight on what the dealership will and will not do. I guess you are right about the powertrain, it will last forever. At least, I am not the only one with a rattling Prius. Don't feel so bad after all.

You definitely are not alone, try a Google search for Prius rattles. My 2010 has had more rattles than any other car I have ever owned. Michinnom is correct, dealers are not very good at fixing rattles and they usually don't even want to try. The problem isn't so much fixing them, anyone can usually do that, it's finding them and getting to them.

There are many threads on here about various rattles and how we have fixed some of them.

I even pointed them to a TSB on rattles and they said what rattles?

I don't think any car is without rattles. I used to work in the detail department for Lexus and often heard rattle complaints / watched technicians tear out entire interiors to find the problem without luck.

If you go this route and complain about rattles, most likely they will tear everything apart and when they put it back together, it won't be done as well as when the car was first assembled - you might have possibly more rattles than you started out with.

My prius is just 3 weeks old. Think I am hearing a small rattle that might be emanating from the passenger sun visor. I just learned to ignore it. I used to own a 1989 civic hatchback and that car had rattles, creaks and squeaks! (because of the weak hatchback area). I'm sure glad I've gotten rid of that car.

LOL, come back in 3 years and report back!
Mine was quiet when new. The heat and cold cycles over 3 years made it an impressive rattle machine. Now, mine is low trim level and I paid little money for it (over 20K). If I spent 30+K on a top trim, I would be royally pissed.

after 20k miles notice a thump which seems like in right passenger door and a ticking sound nearby.
it could be in the A pillar (TSB 0064-12) or in door itself
feels like glass in passenger window rattles
    prominent over bumps
dealer says he does not hear anything , which is impossible
    going to another dealer
car is under warranty, any suggestions?
I WILL NOT let Toyota off the hook.
Others have the problem I have as I have read different accounts.

It depends on the dealer. I was able to get mine to tear out the dash and remedy all the complaints except one: the right defective fender clip. I just jammed rags into a hole near it under the hood and that buzz/rattle was gone too. I have to agree with Green4ever in that over the years of hot and cold, more rattles will develop. I think it's the plastics and assembly methods that do this. Funny thing is, when the interior warms up, many rattles go away.

Also lower temps = different/more rattles.
During the summer my PIP is virtually rattle free, now with overnight temps dipping down into the 20's I have a couple of really annoying rattles. One in particular is in the headliner- it would be a real $itch to fix, so I'll just wait it out till it stops in the spring.

Rob, I remember when you had a liftback loaded with rattles too. Anyway, I had a headliner rattle which turned out to be a large piece of styrofoam up there that had come unglued from the roof. It was rubbing on something causing the noise. I think the styrofoam blocks are just "spacers" used during the build process as I could see no other purpose for them. Like you say, it would be a real pain to remove the entire headliner to find the cause and fix it. Luckily, mine was near the back and I discovered it while installing the wiring for my rearview camera.

Most of it was due to the low profile 17" (and overinflated) tires on the 2012 Five I suspect.
The rattles in the PIP are tolerable, the Five was brutal.
