We really do expect a lot from our cars now. My first car was a 66 International Scout it had 86 hp and weight was over 4,000 I think. with a 3 speed it would get up to 60 but only with a crazy teenager driving. This prius c has plenty of power for what I need. If I used it for Interstate travel with the car loaded down. with 4 people and all the stuff for a trip. I would get somthing with more power. like the new camry hybrid. it has lots of power even with our family and stuff for trips.(y)

The car I traded for my Prius was a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon. It was rated at 0-60 mph 12.7 Quarter mile 18.9.
The only car I ever had which I would consider sporty was a 1988 Ford Thunderbird LX Sport 5.0L
    0- 60 mph 9.6 s; 1/4 mile 17.1 s

Was that Scout a "three on the tree", as we crazy teenagers used to put it? (My SAAB was, but only second and third had Synchromesh , so coming to a full and complete stop was not just recommend , it was required!) Hope your parents are not reading PC or you might get grounded for flogging the Scout!

The scout was a floor shift with a two lever transfer case. hi and low on one and in and out of 4 wheel drive on the other. This scout was the cheaper scout 80, not the 800. it had positrac front and back so it had great traction, but it had the little spicer 27 front and rear differential. I broke lots of axels and finally changed the rear end to dana 44. no more problems with that. It was a really bad car for my first car. I wanted a jeep and bought this because it was jeep-like and I had no common sence. I learned the value of a auto you can count on.(y) now I stick with cars that are known to be relaible.

    I'm surprised the old Fiat wasn't "1/4 mile: maybe" ;) :D

Ah, youth! When common sense is an uncommon virtue!

(My low point with my equally unreliable SAAB was trying to hotwire it whilst bent over the engine compartment and managing to start it while it was in gear, whereupon it ran over my foot and idled off down the parking lot with me in hot pursuit. They just don't make them like that anymore!)

We had a guy at work disable the clutch pedal neutral safety switch in his Saturn so he could install a remote start. He demonstrated it to us without realizing he had the car in gear instead of using the parking brake. The car took off and hit the back of a tractor trailer, jamming under the bumper on the trailer. It was a sight to behold.

I wish I could go a little quicker before getting into the power zone, so I can certainly see where people are coming from. But, you really shouldn't be buying this car for that purpose.

Nice to know I'm not the only dufus out there! My SAAB fetched up against a tree on the other side of the parking lot, so no harm done. Sounds like the Saturn might have required repairs, which means $$$. Expensive, but my wife was watching which made it super embarrassing !
