You expect me to remember something I read two days ago???

Yep. I believe it's a fairly common dream. It's also a sure-fire way to tell if you're dreaming. If I start to wonder whether or not I'm dreaming, I try to levitate myself. If it works, I'm dreaming.

Those would be nice to have, but they are not super-powers.

Consider, however, what the next hundred billion years would be like after the sun goes nova and fries the Earth, and you cannot die.

California Adventures (across the courtyard from Disneyland) has this show called "flight over California" or something similar where you get the "from the wing" view of CA from the air. its a very exhilarating experience. I have done the open air flight in a single engine plane over Seattle and its very much like how it would be when flying especially when you still your head above the tiny windshield.

I will admit I almost lost my camera when trying to film with arms extended. the strap saved it!

I've been up in a hot air balloon once, and in all manner of airplanes.
I'm thinking that there is a REASON that airliners spend all of that money on goofy things like pressurization and temperature control.
Once you get above 1,000 feet, flying without an airplane around you can get to be a bit of a buzz-kill, so I'll scratch that one.
I can also think of nothing that invisibility would gain me except the ability to so something that I wouldn't want to be seen doing.
I can think of some things that walking through walls might gain me, such as the ability to free trapped people after earthquakes, and I'd be THE STUFF ON A STICK at helping folks get into a car or house that they've locked by mistake.

Put me down for that. :D

I don't know about that. I've hiked up to a wee bit over 10,000 feet, and it can be quite pleasant when the weather's nice. And I did a tandem sky-dive from 10,000 feet wearing shorts and a short-sleeve shirt. (And safety goggles, because of the wind.) It was very pleasant. A little hard to breathe as we fell at 200 km/hr, but otherwise I was entirely comfortable. (This was in Playa del Carmen, in Mexico. That's on the mainland just across from Cancun.)

Mostly, I'd fly low to the ground, to get places I could not get to otherwise for lack of roads. One of the most beautiful places I hiked the first two or three years I was hiking is no longer accessible, so I'm told, as the access road has washed out. It was a logging road, and since they are no longer logging there, the road is no longer being maintained.

I can't believe that, given an amazing magical superpower, you'd just nick stuff..

This, however, is an excellent example of using your powers wisely. You've somehow made me think that invisibility could be an excellent power.

So, I've just been on a plane for 8 hours, in economy. Singapore Airlines economy, but economy nonetheless (one of the joys of owning your own company is that payments for flights come out of your pocket, so there's none of the business-class luxury that people with proper jobs get).

I'm now in Changi Airport. And in a couple of hours, I've got another six hours on a hard economy seat to Beijing. My bottom is already in considerable pain, and there's more to come.

Daniel, I need that flying power NOW.

As it is, any of you who are in your 40s and grew up in Britain will sympathise with this. It made Number 4 in the British Top 40 when I was a kid.

Since I don't fly much, doing it without an airplane is not that captivating to me.

Going thru stuff does not interest me that much, although I might want to reconsider...how about going to the center of the Earth and back? How about finding new oil/gas deposits? ($$$$) :D

What interests me most is being invisible. Ever wear a uniform or dress in some kind of official manner? Everyone thinks you have knowledge or power you don't have. I'd like to be invisible to avoid that. It would give me the power to be the fly on the wall on private conversations. Think about it - this is a power the the NSA wants! :D

I recall once a very long time ago participating in a conference call about a co workers behavior as I was an unfortunate witness to a internal verbal altercation between 2 employees.

The Managers asked me what I witnessed and I responded. They said thank you and I never hung up. I put my phone on mute and listened for about an hour. Other managers were on the conference bridge.

The meeting was about all problem employees and one by one they went down the list and made observations and action items.

I was surprised how inaccurate and gross some if the observations were.

What was shocking was my own direct report thoughts of me. In fact she just smiles and acts nice to me but behind closed doors was plotting my demise and others.

When she was fired I recall the ding dong the witch is dead from the wizard of oz being sung from a few. At that moment I lost all trust of that management team as I had direct witness of how employees are treated behind closed doors

Interesting hypothesis. Unfortunately based entirely on assertions in a very old book written by people who thought the world began roughly 6,000 years ago, and that the Earth sits motionless while the sun and stars and everything else revolve around it.

Daniel you are an intelligent man so I have to wonder why you continue to spout these discredited earth the center of the universe, flat earth and young earth myths then pin it on Christians?

    I've discussed this before

News: Galileo's heirs advise the pope-modern myth and historical facts

and challenged this erroneous belief but so far have not received a valid argument in support of your version of the events.

So once again please provide proof of your claim.

Amusing reading. Denialist garbage, but amusing. Sometimes I think that denialists have no redeeming features, but who else can write such poorly reasoned argument ? This is good material for say, an 8th grade course in reasoned debate. Whomever cannot spot the fallacies loses any future right to vote.

Christians did not invent the young Earth idea or the belief that the Earth was at the center of the universe. But the people who wrote the various books of the Bible believed those ideas. They bought into the myths of their culture, all of which were wrong. And it is these authors, who were wrong about pretty much everything, who constitute the only authority for the belief in the Judeo-Christian God.

Before the Hebrews, everyone believed in a multitude of gods, all of whom had their own interests, and all of whom would hurt you if they were unhappy with you. The ancient Hebrews invented the idea of a God who was concerned with (some) humans (he didn't much care about the others), and it was the Christians who invented the idea of a God who would grant eternal happy life to those who believed in him. (That in itself it pretty psychotic: a God who cares whether or not people believe in him, and will torture for all eternity those who do not!) And that whole theology was invented by people who thought the Earth was the center of the universe, and was created roughly 6,000 years ago. (Less at the time they were writing.)

This has nothing to do with Galileo. He was just the first guy to point a telescope up and start observing the planets at some magnification over what the naked eye could see. His troubles with the Church are irrelevant to the question of where you get this notion that we (or some select few of us) will get to live forever in a happy place after we die. That belief was invented by people whose every testable assertion has proven wrong, and those people's writings are the sole "evidence" for that belief.

A really cool super-power to have would be the ability to teach logic and critical thinking to people mired in myth and fantasy.

The Jewish faith does not believe in heaven. When you die it's lights out. No eternal life. My parents devout Catholics believe in heaven and perhaps it is hope for a better tomorrow. My mother and god bless her would be the first to say that the human suffering is overwhelming for many and faith is what gives her strength.

    This only covers Catholics.

I've met plenty of Christians who are strongly of the opinion that the earth is 6,00 years old. One - a good friend of mine who's a Seventh-Day Adventist - disputes claims that Aboriginal people have been in Australia for 50,000 years, because "they can't have been here before the Earth was created".

So Daniel's not creating a myth or pinning it on anyone. Many Christians are quite capable of doing that themselves.

Now, come on Daniel. Flying, being invisible, and walking through walls are all reasonably realistic fantasies. But this one is really a bit far-fetched, don't you think?

While a fun thought exercise, sooner or later you get stuck in a lab as the subject being dissected ....except for walking through walls part. I'll go with that for practical reasons of not being permanently caged as a national security threat.
