I have read that some people have Kensun HIDs and love them $80 bucks on Amazon. What other brands have people bought and are they happy with them. I am wanting to get some and heard the color quality depends on the brand. 4300 is a common range I am hearing.

The " RetroFit Source" has great products; full HID Kits and spare replacement components. Their lamps best are MORIMOTO

Also be sure to get H11b bulbs, which have the ground return wire in the 6 o'clock position when installed, or you will have the ground wire shadow problem.

Can you please elaborate why one should spend $300 on the Morimoto kit vs the $130 hid upgrade? I'm not trolling but just curious. Thanks!

Its just a matter of good, better, best type of thing. Some people are just putting in H11 halogen bulbs, some put HID's in the stock projector, and some opt for HID's and changing to a better suited projector.
It all up to each person which level they want to go to, nothing wrong with either option.
You can get the Retrofit kit, minus the lighting if you already have HID's or using a cheaper setup and save some dough also.

I have the Kensun HID kit. The one I got was not really plug-and-play since I needed to buy some socket adapters so I didn't need to cut any wires in the Prius. Other than that I am happy with the kit.

The "Retro Fit Source "'s kit that I bought with the Morimoto 5 years HID lamps warranty cost me $150.00; and carries everything you may need to pimp the Prius. Including a hefty wire harness with 2 power relays.

I have used several brands of hid kit in the past. Morimoto is the best kit in my experience. And if you go with Morimoto kit make sure you get the XB35 bulb type so you' won't get the shadow effect.

    Thanks ATaylor2!

That is what I was thinking and having a better projector would give a better, more even distribution I would think. Coming from a Honda Element and occasionally driving a 2012 BMW with xenon lights (drool) I am looking do get quality HIDs as one of the first upgrades.

    I ordered this from Amazon:
Kensun HID Xenon Conversion Kit "All Bulb Sizes and Colors" with "Slim" Digital Ballasts - H11 - 6000k - 2 Year Warranty

you can find it cheaper on EBAY, but I was worried if I wasn't happy with it and had to return it.
Easy to install hiding the ballast was the hardest part for me. Only complaint I have is that I got the 6,000k bulbs which have a little blue tint to them, next time I will get the 5,000 or 4,800k. Plug and play and I have not noticed any of the shadows everyone talks about. So far so good.

The question is do you have the ground shadow?

It's very simple- look at your HID bulb:
    - If the ground wire is at the 12 O'clock position when mounted in the car- you WILL have a ground shadow.
    - If the ground wire is at the 6 O'clock position when mounted in the car- you WILL NOT have a ground shadow.

The Prius needs the ground wire at the 6 O'clock position to NOT have a ground shadow.

Pulled the trigger today on the HID headlights. Ordered the "Retro Fit Source kit with XB35 bulbs and 4300K.
Had emailed a few questions and they were fast and great with the response. I also asked about the 35 W or 50 W bulb and it was last weekend on saale for $130. but when I got the email back it was not on sale. But they gave me the sale price because I asked during the long thanksgiving break and it took them longer to answer back. So far I love this company for the help I have recieved and have read many people have good support after the sale. You can not go wrong with them. Normal price with better bulb XB35 is about $175.00.

You can NOT go wrong with the Retro Fit Source parts and customer service. Their quality products and extended warranty is far superior that other re sellers.

So you did go with the 50 watt kit?
I started w/the 35 watt kit- ended up with the 50 watt kit. The 50 watt system is a huge and noticeable improvement over the 35 watt kit.

How hard is it to install HIDs if you are very non-automotive-smart? However, can follow directions and are generally technical (computers)

If you go with the 35 watt kits- it's virtually plug-n-play into the existing car harness.
It's about 1/2 hour job from start to finish.

If you go with the 50 watt kit- you need to use a power relay which needs to be wired into the fuse block and grounded.
