How neat is that; getting $1000 more than you paid! But then - based on your sale / trade-in experience - getting 15K for our Pkg #3 is probably a bit too optimistic, although yours did have more than double the miles on the odometer.

How did you figure out the amount of $15.00?

I am currently trying to give information to my landlords so that they will let me start charging my 2013 Plug-in Prius at my apartment.

I sent them numerous articles and let them know that I expect the cost of charging to be between $0.28 and $1.00 per night.

They are concerned that the additional electricity usage will put their overall use into a higher tier, making their rates higher on the electric bill.

They want to raise my rent $50.00 per month.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Alice

The PIP uses about 3kw per charge. Since the power to my outlet next to my parking spot comes on at dusk (outlet on photocell) I charge only once per night. so 3kw x 30 days is 90kw per month. 90 x .15 cents per kw = $13.50 a month. My landlords electric bill is .09 cents per kw so he's making out like a bandit. Especially since I don't charge and completely dead battery every night or charge every night.

Oh, yeah, I forgot this: my apartment electricity is commercial, the highest tier no TOU rates.

    priuskitty,

Thank you very much! I really appreciate that information.

Is paying more than you actually use worthwhile because you have that flexibility? Do you ever charge twice in a day?

My landlords are going to wait to raise my rent. I bought a meter to measure how much electricity I will use this month.

I really don't think that it will be more than you pay because I won't have to fully charge every night. I only have to charge the battery 2/3 because driving down a hill each morning will charge the remaining third!

    Cheers,
    Alice

Even though I'm paying more than I actually use it's still half of what I was paying when I drove my 2010 Prius to work. And, Yes, sometimes I do charge more than once a night. When I do charge more than once I use the outlet that is located near the rear entrance to my apartment (it's powered all the time) But the parking area where this outlet is located is for 15 minute parking only so I only use this outlet occasionally. I use a "Kill A Watt" meter to measure total wattage during a charge and the max amount per charge was around 3 KW. As a last resort I travel down the road ( about 2 miles one way) to Consumers Power and plug into a Chargepoint outlet there. I face competition with Chevy Volts on that site though. There's only one L2 and one L1 outlet. And other cars that are not PHEV's or EV's in the parking spot.

BTW: my commute to work is 2.7 miles one way.
