I'm going to be looking at a couple of Prii next week. I have the Engine Link app on my iPhone and the Elm wifi unit from my former Prius. I plan on hooking it up to these cars I'm looking at once I leave the car lot for a test drive. Any help as to what I should check for? I have the Gen II presets loaded in Engine Link.

    Thanks Everyone

Which PID's does Engine Link decode? Hopefully all the relevant hybrid parameters. I would look at:

*the spread of HV battery module voltages and internal resistances (should be only small variations)
*the temperature rise of inverter and MG1 MG2 after a test drive (should be just warm in cold MN)
*12 battery voltage (initially ~14V then down to ~13.5V after some minutes)
*Peak Amps into HV battery when sharp braking (should be close to 80A)
*Engine temp (around 85C after warm up)
*If I wanted to really go over it with a critical eye, I would look at the O2 sensors and catalytic converter signals. I haven't checked those, so can't give realistic values to watch for.
*Tire pressures? If one was low, I might suspect a slow leak.

The other main things can be seen in the MFD, like MPG, and the operation of the energy arrows. I'm sure others might add to this.

Look at time or millage since last DTC cleared. A short time could mean there is trouble waiting, you can ask what was wrong, and what code was cleared.

I have 14 IR "reports" to choose from and 14 HV Block "reports". Any idea what these levels should read?

I'm not sure I can do that with Engine Link. My options on that screen are; "Read Trouble Codes", "Read Pending Codes", and "Clear Trouble Codes".
