    ^Exactly my thoughts

    - The extended warranty (as I recall) is 8 years/100,000 miles from date of purchase. So it does run congruent with existing warranty
    - I always thought gap insurance was required when leasing esp. when dealer artificially inflates the residual value (higher than fair value) and in case of accident/wreck, the gap insurance covers the difference between what is paid by the insurance and what you owe to the dealer. To me, it doesn't make sense when buying especially when getting at fair price as suggested by kbb

I have another question: The dealer has only one key and he said he will try to get a new second key. I always thought the key (not fob) for Prius was something special (like laser cut) and had to be done at factory. Can anyone shed some light on this? If the dealer fails to provide the second key (for whatever reason), how much should I try to reduce the overall price by?

Although mine is a 2012, the original in service date was 4/5/2013 so I have 29 months or 27,500 miles left on the original warranty. I was told the certification warranty was in addition to the balance of the original. I will have to double check that because a 41 month 39,500 warranty seems too good to be true.

I thought I saw that a new key fob is several hundred dollars. You should factor that into your purchase decision.

You want 2 FOB's as the car came with both. Was this car a repo? Does it have Colorado plates on it? Auction vehicles don't have plates on them but normal traded in vehicles do have plates on them. The FOB is about $400 dollars. You want both of them or they throw a replacement 2nd one in on the deal for free.

Also wouldn't a person think such a low mileage car should already be Toyota Certified if it didn't have a accident or other funny history?

Please excuse my lack of knowledge :D : What is repo? The car does not have Colorado plate, but TX plate. From carfax, it looks like it wasn't auctioned but traded in. I am not sure where the second key went missing but he said he will provide me a new key

My understanding it that they can get it certified but not at agreed price ($400 more). And since it still has warranty, certification is not necessary at this stage. Is it a fair assumption?

    One last question :D
In the carfax report, I see that the car when shipped (after manufacture) was transferred from dealer to dealer in several states for nearly 8 months before it was sold. The toyota dealer said that it is quite common for them to move cars from one dealer to another one if they are new. But I saw that it transferred from nearly 6 dealers for 8 months in 3 states (not just toyota dealer but also chevy and others). Are there any concerns here? A strange thought came to my mind as to whether this might be a lemon? But carfax has buyback too. So I am confused :(

That seems kind of strange. My family's dealerships almost daily do dealer trades but the vehicles coming in are already sold to a customer. Sumthin kinda sounds funny on the car your lookin at :-(

One thing to check out is the names of the non-Toyota dealers. They might own a non-Toyota dealership but also a Toyota dealership. It might be in the same building but Carfax only calls it blah blah chevy something...

I did a quick check - It looks like they are recognized by Toyota (It shows in Toyota website in dealer profile). Also the other dealers where it moved to were toyota dealers in other states (and 1-2 chevy dealer). Also the carfax report he sent to me was a report in email. I asked him for same carfax report link from carfax.com (as you can find in cars.com). He said its the same and if I need to get the same report from carfax.com, I need to pay an extra $40.

Well you can believe them or tell 'em to keep the car. Really 40 bucks is nothing when they can make thousands selling you the car. I don't put up with any bullshit at a dealer ;-)

I finally got carfax report from website. Its same as one send via email. Everything looks fine - Regarding multiple dealers: I guess I have to take whatever the dealer said on face value

My thinking right now is not to go for certification since I feel its waste of money especially since I still have warranty remaining for 2 years. I also felt it was probably a way to make more money since the dealer agreed to go for a lower apr if I purchase the certification, extended warranty and gap insurance and otherwise will not be able to match the apr I am getting elsewhere. All these extras would probably offset the apr difference :)

That's bullshit to say you have to buy this and that to get a lower APR.

I went thru our credit union and got a rate lower than the dealer offered.

Post some pics when you get it home ;-)
