Oh no, no spare tire. Pretty sure Camry Hybrid comes with spare tire. Wonder why not, hmm.

Tough to gauge how much interest there is in this car. I suppose most will see how much cheaper Prius is, that it gets 50 mpg instead of only 47, has a spare tire and the cargo flexibility. Power, comfort and driveability seems to matter to some people, but in the green marketplace, mpgs are just about everything and Prius is still best at that. Can get a Prius plug in for price of Accord hybrid touring, I think, so I'll bet PiP sells more than Accord.

The Accord hybrid will be available in all 50 states, so I would bet on the Accord outselling the PIP (whatever happened to the PIP's expansion into other states?). Should theoretically sell about the same as the HyCam. There's plenty of people (like you and I) that value comfort and handling. Like the HyCam, the hybrid may be a tough upsell for most people, who only care about payback on fuel savings (not emissions). However, as I pointed out in an earlier post, there's not that much price difference between the high end V6 Accord and the high end hybrid Accord.

To save weight and cost to the manufacturer. It also reduces the cargo space lost from the battery.

With better tires, the prevalence of cell phones, and on board emergency systems like On Star, the absolute need of a spare is diminished. We'll likely see more cars without spares going forward.

We'll just see how easy it is to get really high mpgs in the Accord Hybrid. I'll bet a lot of those reviewers are very experienced at driving hybrid, getting big mpgs. Thing about Prius it seems so easy to get over 50 MPGs, especially after it fully breaks in which seems to take over 10,000 miles. Prius has the best combo of cost, MPGs and versatility.

A break down of the route would have been nice, but the Accord PHV's hybrid showing here looks good for the hybrid.

Called Dublin Honda to see if any Accord hybrids hanging around so I can do the trunk test with drum case. That's it, nothing more.... none in stock.

Sales mgr. calls back saying none coming in til mid December or something like that. He thought I was hot to buy a car.....

so the sales Mgr starts selling ... says how the Accord Hybrid can be as much as $8k more than other trim Accords ..... and that he has lots of EX-Ls in stock ....

then he talks about some road test where they got 42 MPG highway in the 4 cyl CVT regular Accords, blah, blah....

I know he's got a job to do to sell cars, but talking down the hybrid and up the conventionals won't help the hybrid much.

His tune will change when the hybrid gets in, and he realizes that it will net more profits at the mrsp they can get at first.

Ask him if there are any within a couple of hours drive. You can do the drum case test and know.

Ok, so I saw the all-new Accord Hybrid, an EX-L with me own two eyes at the SF auto show. It was getting a lot of lookers (the women too :-o) while there about noontime. Beautiful car and cool shark fin antenna on the roof. Down side?? Yes, there is. The trunk is a sort of small. It is wide, but there is only 25" from the back to the front where the 'battery wall' is. The conventional Accord is 45" from trunk back wall to base of the rear seat, although trunk narrows near the seat due to rear suspension.

Accord Hybrid engine and transmission are sourced from Japan and the car is assembled in Ohio. The conventional Accord engine and transmission are sourced in the US and it's also assembled in Ohio.

There a bit of cubby room on top of the battery, and there are two small cubbies underneath the trunk deck lid, but standing and looking at the trunk, it will appear sort of small. Interesting enough, the plug-in hybrid trunk doesn't appear a heck of a lot smaller than the hybrid trunk, but the Plug-in Accord plastic wheel covers are beyond horrible. What were they thinking??

Interior of Accord Hybrid is very nice. Went over and sat in a Prius liftback Two, mostly alone not getting much attention in Toyota's area. After sitting in Cadillacs, BMWs, Audis, even high trim Accords .... Prius is, well, sort of bland. Wow, Toyota needs to refresh the Prius.

You seem to be closer to jumping ship

The last post of the thread you linked seem to indicate the same cold weather issues we all experience only a bit worse on the Honda. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds as more stock gets into more buyers hands.

Oh no, I'm just an interested observer of Accord Hybrid. The MPGs are going to be lower due to Winter, but hopefully it can hold 43 among buyers, then hit 48 next Spring.
