Hey, that is really cool! As I said, a great incentive for the salesperson to use. I was unaware of the change, and it makes perfect sense in order to speed up the process. Thanks for letting me, along with other PC members know. As I read it, each dealer can get up to 10 stickers at a time, so will probably put them on as each car is sold?

They can submit for 10 stickers per form at a time. As many forms as they want each time. More importantly though, is the electronic application. Dealers have a direct connection with dmv to submit instantly.

The goal is to have the stickers on the car before it hits the lot.

    drjman,
Interesting read (your link). It does say dealer can only apply for 10 stickers at a time. In the (very detailed) FAQ I noticed nothing about how often the dealer can order 10 more. I just saw above you say they can order as many 10 packs Thta they have VIN#'s for) as they want. I must have missed it. But as you mention dialing in their process:
    1) I wonder how long before physical receipt dealers have VIN #'s (probably more than the 14 days it takes the Calif DMV to get them their bundle of '10' stickers. So maybe dealers will be able to just bundle 'the next' 10 (or less) PIP vin #'s they have on order onto a DMV HOV application, then have plenty of time to receive the HOV stickers before arrival and have them on hand to apply at the dealer prep time. Cool. I wonder how long before a dealer ordered/spec'ed vehicle rolls down the assembly line, that it's VIN # is assigned? From this thread of the early adopters :D waiting for their PIPs. it seems it takes about 3 -4 weeks from 'build date' to arriving at the dealer.
    How Long? | PriusChat
This wait had to be WAY MORE INTENSE than waiting for the next new " iThingy " (or Galaxy/HTC/Optimus...) ;)

We're in the very early stages of this new process. Some dealers will get the process going like clockwork (exactly like your theory) and some will never do it. Just like some dealers are great and others suck.

As far as when they get the VIN #'s? My guess would be when the their block of cars leave the distribution lot. For CA dealers, I bet that notice is short. All the cars coming off ships are basically not much further from their final destination than about 100 miles. Certainly only a day's trip.

As for the multiple 10 submissions at once, it was on the first page of that PDF.

I wonder if there is a reason a very big and good dealer would not be doing this already. I received excellent customer service at Dublin Toyota. I would have thought they would have been all over anything that would put a smile on a customer's face. My PIP was rec'd at dealer 10/29 and I bought it 10/30. They mentioned nothing about 'them getting' stickers, just how I would apply for them.

I see it as a marketing ploy mostly. "Buy from me! The sticker's already on!" The whole process is an unexpected addition to overhead on their process. Some will want to do it and some won't want to bother. I can totally understand both ways.

You know some big dealer group petitioned or greased the state to get this going in the first place. I bet there are dealers that don't even know it exists.

    So as always YMMV...

    Nice!
I just bought my 2014 Base Pearl Plug in last night from Tustin Toyota! I didn't need to fill anything out, they should show up at my door within a week or two.

"They" being the stickers? If so, this dealer didn't get them ahead of time?

Anyone else taken longer than 4 weeks to get green stickers?

    Cool.

    Got 'em!
My bad... I cleaned off a stack of papers next to my desk and there was the DMV envelope with my Green HOV stickers. Doooh! That will teach me to let stuff pile up. The letter was posted 11/27/13, exactly two weeks from the date I mailed in the application (11/13).

I purchased my 2014 on 12/13/13 and am waiting too patiently for my stickers to come in. Dealer submitted the application so I hope they come in soon!

Edit: They came on 12/31, going to pick them up on Thursday. Do most people put them on themselves or have the dealerships do it? I'd be pissed if they put them on crooked, but I'd rather have them put on right away.

Crooked stickers = ugly PiP! I wouldn't rely on anyone else to put it on straight. Do it yourself! Here's a tip, don't peel the backing off until you have aligned it. So before you do anything, put a strip of scotch tape on the top of the sticker then place the sticker on the bumper using the scotch tape. Walk back far enough and make sure it's level. Then peel the backing off and apply sticker. Once sticker is applied, you'd obviously take the scotch tape off.

I only put on one small sticker on the back bumper. The rest are in the glove compartment.

Can you get a ticket if pulled over in the carpool lane with only one sticker? I didn't feel like waiting until the weekend and then spending a bunch of time getting it straight and level, so I just had the dealership do it when I picked it up. They did a good job. I would have placed the front one a bit lower and the rear one a bit more towards the side of the car but it works for me. It was pretty awesome using the carpool lane yesterday, hopefully it will be worth it come around regular traffic next week.

so far about 2 months with only 1 sticker, no problems... fingers crossed!
But I figure if I get pulled over, I'll just say the stickers were stolen and I only have 1 left.

I haven't permanently placed the large stickers on any of my cars since the program began in Ca several years ago. I did use one of the large ones on a magnetic backing for a while, when I remembered to put in on. I use one of the smaller ones on the lower left front and one on the rear. On the PiP I have it on the glass below the hatch. No problems so far. The large stickers are with the accompanying paperwork, which you are required to carry, tucked away in the glove box. Should I get stopped and told I need to put them on, I can do so in a minute. I don't anticipate this happening. The CHP officers know what to look for, and I'm pretty sure they have plenty of other things to keep them busy besides checking sticker placement. Besides, I don't think it says anything in the vehicle code about exact placement of these stickers, but rather just the instructions that come with them, which I don't think constitutes an enforceable law. Just my humble opinion.

You should get it within a week. Took mine just short of 3 weeks during the holiday season.
