I have posted a spreadsheet of docs from my MotorCardiogram app to google docs. You can find the pointer to the spreadsheet in the blog section of motorcardiogram (full stop) com (priuschat doesn't allow me to post URLs until I've posted several entries.

Please take a look at this raw data, and note that the data is almost all exactly like it comes from the OBD port (except the temperatures have been adjusted to C). Speed is in m/s, acceleration is in m/(s*s), durations are in milliseconds. Fuel Use is inferred from the maf sensor reading (01 10) and the command equivalence ratio (01 44). The left and right acceleration values are probably not very interesting.

If you would like to see additional metrics from my large data set, please let me know. See the listing for the motorcardiogram app for additional metrics available.

I look forward to hearing how you've interpreted the data.

Hi Soren, I just took a quick look at your "MotorCardiogram" site. It appears that your software is currently free on google play store, is that correct?

What are your plans? Do you hope to develop it further and then try and make some money from it. If so then I'd certainly look at the possibility of monitoring traction battery statistics (cell voltages for example), as that seems to be something that many people are interested in.

This project has been to show my skills as a software developer since losing my job a year ago. Thanks for your encouragement.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with motorcardiogram. I know that there is another android app that has a method for adding in PIDs to track, and I've thought about adding the ability to read that format and add it to the files, perhaps by loading the formats to the web and then downloading when a matching VIN shows up and capturing in the kml file. To date I have only tracked the industry standard PIDs.

My short list of improvements are to pop a button on the screen when a check engine light is on, and then do a rudimentary search on the web for the year, make, model, and trouble code (there are tables of makes based on VIN, but not models, as far as I can see). Based on such a search the driver might be able to determine whether they can continue or whether they should call a tow truck (a little more work than carmd).

Next is to monitor the airbag commanded PID (which is not standardized) based on a table on the VIN, which would then do all but dial 911 (or the emergency number of the country you are in) and perhaps send SMS messages to some numbers you have stored. I've found the PID for GM cars, but not any others, and I don't know of an easy way to test this in a real car.
I think that what is mentioned in the first paragraph is after these two improvements. And I continue to fix bugs and look at other things.

So please go out and buy an ELM 327, put it in your car, connect an android phone to it, and use any of the fine apps on the app store (hopefully mine will scratch an itch), and learn more about how your car works.

    Soren.
