The fact is OMG's Prius does not contain the OEM recommended coolant. While you may be right that the coolant that's in his car isn't doing any harm, there's no way for either of us to know if it is .

OMG's taking the risk. Not you.

From all the cars I had Subarus were a very picky bread when it came to parts (head gaskets, coolant and even thermostat etc..).
With the Prius I don't know much about it so I won't take the risk. It didn't even cross my mind the car had 3 water pumps and such complex cooling system otherwise I would've done it myself.

You know jadziasman, I appreciate the fact that you're trying to look out for the OP but in reality, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if regular Prestone didn't meet all the requirements to cool and protect the car. What is Prestone or any other coolant for that matter??? Is it a corrosive substance??? not hardly. Using something other than the fabled Toyota Super Long Life Coolant will cause no harm to his engine or his engine coolant loop.

As far as risk goes, OMG is not taking the risk because there is no risk.

    - Well I took the car to the dealer today for a full coolant flush. I hope this will be the last time the dealer will see my car over there. It's too expensive. They were charging this other fella with $345 bucks to change the 12v battery, not sure what gen his prius was.
    - It costed me about $240 bucks and also they were trying charge me to change air filters and the drive belt saying it needs to be changed for another $250 bucks. I looked at the belt and didn't think it needed to be changed.
    - BEFORE I took the car to the dealer I was getting codes P1151 and P1116 which it's the heat tank not getting coolant or maflunctioning and P1116 which is the coolant temp sensor and they would go away and come back and so on. Plus the car was dead cold inside even after I drove it for a wile. Fan was runing but only cold air would blow.
    - AFTER I got it back from the dealer and did the coolant flush, car was able to heat the interior and it was nice and cozy. Codes didn't return and car drives normal.
    - In my own personal opinion I think the cooling system had air in it and also who knows what kind of coolant was in it. But all I have to say the coolant was not flowing like it was supposed to for sure.

    - Also wile I was there at the dealer waitting there were awuful lot of gen3 prius and prius c going in for service. Is gen 3 more needy? Or maybe I just caught a day where they scheduled a lot of them who knows?

Happy that I am done with it for now.

I am looking for a front plate bracket and bolts for the rear plate (anyone know the bolt size?). Dealer wanted $50 dollars for a front plate bracket.

Coffe was free by the way. :)

Yep, that was likely nothing more than air in your system but, I'm glad it is fixed. I find that a lot of new owners have some problems with their cars initially but, that usually subsides quickly as these cars are very reliable.

Good luck with your "new to you" Prius. Keep checking in here and learning and it will benefit you greatly (at least it has me). I no longer have any fear of these cars. I have owned 3, I currently own 2 and a Camry Hybrid. Once you get used to owning a Toyota Hybrid, its really hard to own anything else (my opinion anyway).

Thank you. I will be arround the forum for sure. There is a huge rise in newer prius models arround. I see them everywhere in town. I've heard people going all the way to california to buy them and bring them up here. A friend that works for toyota said he even sold one gen 2 with 300k miles and they sell quick. No wonder the government wants to tax green cars.
