I bought the car at 35,000 miles - it was inspected fully at that time and all the necessary fluids were taken care of, belts, ext ect.

I am nearing 60k and wondering what kind of maintenance I may need at this point.

Did any fellow prius owners do anything maintenance wise at that mileage??

    Thanks in advance!

Check Belts at 35K, lol  - car doesn't have any belts.
I would have the Transmission Fluid changed. Use only Toyota approved fluid, no substitutes. Then Happy motoring.

I would have all fluids and filters changed, at least that's what I did. Coolant, brake, transmission and oil. But don't listen to me, I'm just a lowly mechanic and there are desk jockeys in here that know more than me.

It never hurts to do your preventative maintenance early :)

As for 60k, I would do oil change, engine and cabin air filters, and transmission drain and refill if you haven't done so already.

coolant last up to 110k miles from what I know, but you can do them early if you want, no harm no foul. As for the brake fluids, I would just get them change when replacing your brake pads and rotors.

Brake fluid and coolant? Seriously? A little excessive in my opinion, especially in Arizona.

This maintenance practice is preventative. There is no automotive fluid/filter related to this discussion that can or should be used to Toyota's "minimum recommended" duty cycle. Remember Toyota still says lifetime Transmission fluid. I know of no DOT 3 or 4 Brake fluid or anti-freeze good for 100,000 plus miles. The time/usage duty cycle for fluids and filters on this car, as compared to other Toyotas using the same (or other car and light truck vehicles) is unrealistic and not recommended. My respects to you and your business for giving Prius owners an option to Dealership only service, but you should know this.

Working on my cars is like working on the lawnmower for me, and I am just as thorough with them. The machines I work on for a living cost about $49,970,000 more than a Prius, so what do I know?

They actually stated in AllData to not change coolant until 120k miles... just my 2 cent.

...and Toyota still says not to change the ATF. By the way (y) for the videos you contributed.

lol Thanks! I'll try to do more Prius videos, but there isn't much maintenance on them unfortunately :(. As for Toyota... when I worked there and when they introduced the WS fluids, my lead tech told me the same thing. I just think Toyota is following what the manufacture recommends. So I don't know... meh...

As for the coolant replacement, it was from AllData. But thats just personal preference, like I said. No harm no foul on doing your maintenance early.

So, this means you should recommend other Prius owners flush their wallets out by maintaining their vehicles as if they were worth $50M? I'm all for replacing transmission fluid every 30K, but brake fluid and coolant at 30K sounds ridiculous to me. Have you ever seen brake fluid or coolant fail a performance test after so few miles? I haven't.

"So, this means you should recommend other Prius owners flush their wallets out by maintaining their vehicles as if they were worth $50M?" ".

...and you "interpreted this" from my quote how? This is not the Rachel Maddow Show or FOX News. Be careful.

I answered techno-Zen's question presented to all, and back it both with experience and in practice. Your business puts out fires as they come, I do more to prevent the fires in the first place. A tow truck is no help to a lawn dart with 48,000 lbs of thrust.

    My answer remains.

I guess if I was doing the work myself I would change everything. But since I have to pay for someone to do this - I would have to consider every procedure carefully since it costs somewhere between $125 to $175 per procedure (transmission fluid, brake, inverter, etc.). Even the oil change is over $60 now.

There's a Sticky (top thread) in the Prius Gen II maintenance from a guy who makes some detailed recommendations.

That said, my car is approaching 100K and we've only changed the cabin filters and engine air filters myself (with professional oil changes). Also changed my headlights and will learn to change the marker lights soon. With 2 Priis now, I might have to learn to change my oil! I am planning to change the transmission and PCV valve at 100K.

i Would strongly recommend you to change CVT transmission oil change, you would be shockingly amazed at the condition of oil. mine i changed at around 73k and it was nothing but black water. imagine what would water do to your parts, it would not feel like oil at all for sure. It is very easy DIY and should be repeated at every 50k if not 30k

All of the above, then drive it for another 140K miles. :D
