Here in AZ, almost all of the cabs are now Prius. It makes sense and the trend here is picking up for personal cars too. I'm amazed how many Prii I see for such a conservative state (yes, like Texas, we still have humongous trucks and SUVs).

One other point...Toyota makes a great vehicle! If you want a reliable car where little goes wrong, if ever, get a Prius. Californians have know this for decades.

The time needed to fully research every single purchase vastly exceeds the time most people have available. So shortcuts are required, and consciously or otherwise, advertising helps influence that process for a huge block of the consumer market.

I agree that people have limited time and have to choose how they will spend it, but there is no excuse for not researching maj0r purchases. The time required could even be done while the TV is on or during commercial breaks. Considering the average American spends 34hrs a week watching live television, there is plenty of time to make an informed purchasing decision.

I'll do at least some amount of research on anything over $20. Just looking at the Amazon ratings for a product takes no more than 20 seconds. I can appreciate that others are not like me, and that explains the Escalades of the world.

There's no better car than the Prius when it comes to handling the LA traffic. I also have a Sienna minivan and that thing chugs gas even when idling at heavy traffic. I work in Beverly Hills and you'll see about 10 Prii's here every minute, they are all over the place. One night I was driving home from work and there were 6 of us at the canyon all Prii's lined up like a convoy! It was awesome.

Yeah a lot of Priuses in California..... also oddly enough, lots of PT Cruisers! (I rarely see the PT anywhere else, but I see one PT for every 3 priuses.) The Prius is a nice car, but I personally prefer the Civic Hybrid's stick shift ;) And saves just as much gas.
