    I've been using kits from VVME for years with no issues. Excellent quality, low price and good service.

    This is true but they are $200+shipping... for a lot less DDMTuning( DDM Tuning 35W and 55W HID Kits) offers a great kit with lifetime warranty. I would put my dollar on that the DDMTuning kits are just as good and produce as much output as the Xtreme Digital ones.
    Save you money.
    Thats just my .02¢

    I've used kits from DDM Tuning for the last six years and they've been great.
    Inexpensive, good quality, no complaints.

    DDM tuning has been hit or miss with me. Have had good stuff and crap from them as well. Oh and "forgotten orders" on more than 1 occasion.

    Cheap kits are a crapshoot, some work for years some go kaput in a few months. I was fed up with cheap kits failing, went through 2 kits and 4 sets of bulbs, until invested in a quality kit.

    The thread asked for the best HID kits, not the cheapest. Phillips bulbs are noticeably brighter, never flicker, no color shift, and have a undisputed record of excellence. $200 is a worthy investment for superior output, longevity, and the peace of mind given by reliable lighting used everyday.

    That doesn't make any sense. :confused:

    The higher wattage kits/ballasts would need to be connected directly to the power source, hence the relay.

    Why would the 35w kits need a relay and not the higher wattage kits?

    Because the car's computer thinks there is no light there as it is pulling less than the halogen 55 W. Consequently it flickers on and off. Good modern 35Ws are fitted with electronics that fool the canbus. if the electronics are not available then a relay is used to give the ballast constant power from the inverter/battery.

    Prius doesn't use CANBUS for the headlights!
    The OEM lights are 35 watt the ballasts for 35 watt HID's draw close to 35 watts... so no problem or relay needed for 35 watt HID's in the Prius.
    55 watt HID's could maybe work without the power relay- but it's above the OEM power draw from the headlight supply harness, so it's recommended to use the relay for 55 watt systems.

    I feel you have somehow acquired this information but stored it in an inverse way.

    As you can see from below table drawn from: (bolding my own)

    Adventures in Automotive Networks and
    Control Units
    By Dr. Charlie Miller & Chris Valasek

    CAN ID 0622
    Description Combination meter display
    Length 08
    Data[0] 12
    Data[1] State:
    0x48 => Interior lights on
    0x88 => Headlamps On
    0x88 => High beams on
    0x00 => Manual headlamp pull
    Data[2] State 2:
    0x10 => Interior lights
    0x30 => Headlamps on
    0x60 => Manual headlamp pull
    0x70 => High beams on
    Data[

    But in a way you are correct the Gateway ECU uses a bus called BEAN, Body Electronics Area Network. to communicate with the lights.

    This doesn't change the fact that the ECU thinks no light is operational if 55W draw is not present.

    This from:

    3.2.1 Multiplex-Communication Systems
    Multiplex-communication systems (MPXs) uses serial communication between the
    connected ECUs [8]. Compared to parallel communication systems, where every
    subsystems is connected separately with the other subsystems, serial communication
    systems connects all ECUs through one single channel called bus. For data transfer
    through these buses the information has to be converted into data frames. Table 3.1

    Hi-Fi System

    Table 3.1: Properties of the Prius MPXs [6].gives an overview of the properties of the MPXs and which components of the Prius they connect together. The networks are working on the same concept, but they
    have different message formats, message lengths and communications speeds.
    The BEAN is also called comfort bus. It contains control devices as for lightning,
    windows and air conditioning system. Hence, no high communication speed is
    required. Operation, display and navigation systems are connected through the
    AVC-LAN. The CAN is responsible for the communication between the ICE and
    the HSD system. This network allows a fast and secure data transfer. The three
    MPXs are connected through the Gateway-ECU which allows a coupling of networks
    with different architectures.

    "best" can be quantified several different ways, one of those factors is price. If a lower cost kit performs as well as a more expensive, some might consider that to be best. Even if a kit produces 80% of a kit that costs 2x more, I would still consider that the "best" option. At a certain point, your ROI starts dropping.

    Ive been using the DDM kit which is like 30 bucks or less now since 2009 in my camry for both fogs and headlights. They have never failed. Ive also been using them in my Prius for the past two years with no issues. My buddy also was convinced and ordered 5 sets for gifts to his family this christmas. I guess its cool if you think spending more means better quality, but in this situation I highly suggest you give DDM a try, even if it is drop shipped from china.

    I have paid for and got them in the mail. My question is: where do I hook the hot wire for the relay wire

    Most tap into the fuse/relay box in the engine compartment.
    You'll find a larger gauge wire running it to it which supplies +12vdc for most electrical loads. I did mine over a year ago and the details are a bit fuzzy- I'm on my way out right now to a family event, but I'll try to get you some good info later on today.

    Thanks. I did find a video online showing the positive post to jump start the car in the fuse box so I will peak at it when I get a chance. It should be plug and play but with all the connections I just did not want to get confused.
