I realize its too late but you will find the prissy )prius c2) perfect for your transportation. Short trips are not great for internal combustion engines so the motor assuistance is very beneficial. Besides 45 mpg plus is great on the budget compasred to theF150. I hope you bought the c2; you'll be glad you did !

Sorry for the late update.....To start off, I love the prius C, but hate the salesman. That said, I did alot of math and right now with my current financial state it would be stretching the budget pretty thin, I dont want to pay on something for 5 yrs strugglling to pay for it. SO..I am going to find a cheap car, already founda 2000 saturn 1owner with 88k for $2500, I figure if I can drive this for atleast 2 yrs and save enough money to put down a big payment on the C it would be more beneficial. Right now I only have the truck for a trade, no cash down so payment will be higher, also have the wifes car to pay for, almost done that one, that alone will save me 225 a month. So as much as I love the C i need to be a little more frugle with money.Imade this mistake before and it came back to bite me. Sorry for the long post again but figured I owed to all you great people to update you. I did find a gen1 prius on CL that needed just the battery, not the expensive ones just the reg for 900 bucks but I missed it by a day. It wouldve been a great starter vehicle if nothing else. Thanks again

Hope the Saturn works out for you. I personally don't see buying a new hybrid as a way to save money unless you were going to buy a new car anyway or drive a ton. If you buy used, regular gassers can make a lot more sense.

+1 I bought a new C cause my old car went belly up.

The car was literally falling apart at 180,000 miles and the mechanics told me they "might" be able to fix it but spending a lot of money for new computer and components then finding that's not the problem was not cost effective.

Actually one mechanic (a good friend) had his shop go over my car and gently told me: "It's time to get another car - this one's given you all it's got - let it go.":)

Sounds like you are making a good decision for you "today". And that's good.

There are a lot of factors to consider when buying any car. I haven't always applied the greatest wisdom in my own purchases.

But I honestly think when considering a Hybrid? The key really is in WANTING a hybrid and being committed to owning a hybrid for all the benefits that owning a hybrid offers.

I almost feel like if you are considering a hybrid BUT other regular vehicles are just as appealing to you? Then don't buy the hybrid.

Sounds like you are considering budget, as well as whether the hybrid benefit of owning a Prius c would be worth it given your short commutes.

I think it's a perfectly valid, and perhaps good decision to buy something you immediately feel more comfortable with financially. You can always drive the Saturn for X amount of time, and revisit a future purchase of a Hybrid.

I myself investigated Hybrids and Prius 4 years ago, then bought a Honda Fit and drove it for 3 years. There were many reasons I made that decision at that time, but one of the primary reasons was that I don't think I was really ready to commit to owning a Hybrid.

By the time (This year) I finally bought my Prius, I knew for sure I wanted a Prius, with really no doubt.

^^^agreed...I did not say it earlier because I was late to the thread, but financially the new hybrid makes sense the more miles/yr you put on, and preferrably at least 12,000 per year. You guys got me thinking Fit is possible next car for me, but I probably hold this one 5-more yrs unless we mess it up somehow. Of course, I am thinking *used* PiP or v next time too, as we project going under 12000 miles year in the future.

    >>Looks like we did only 13,000 this yr. way down for us
    >>>action item everyone run out to their cars and get December 31 miles on ODO!!
