I have a prius c 2 2012 and we just got about 8-9 inches of snow and after driving in the storm to work when I start up my prius or step on the gas to merg onto say a highway I have a small rattle noise in the rear/ muffler area under the car. My dad says it could just be build up of snow and ice under the car. Any ideas??

Do not know Jersey but remember in Minnesota they have car washes designed to clean the under body better than say in the south. You guys are getting slammed with winter weather right now but if you can clean/defrost the under carriage and it goes away, Dad may just be right. Wisdom usually comes with age.

    Could be.

Like frodoz737 suggested, give the underside a good bath and see if the rattle goes away.

    Father Knows Best?
But can't you simply look and see?
There's either snow and ice build up underneath or not.

I'm sure they could simply look and see. Electric, I'm not sure where your undisclosed location is but where I live, the thought of getting on the ground to look under my car is not too appealing right now.

Oh come on! You can make a Snow Angel while checking for ice build up!

Snow angels in clean snow yes. Snow angels in dirty mush, not so much.

    Oh come on.
All I'm saying is LOOK for the Ice or Snow build up.
    You can do this.
You can find a place to do this.
    It's not that hard.

If you are recommending washing it to clean the Ice or Snow off..you're going to have to look and find it anyway.
    Not a toughie.

Take it to one of those coin operated spray wash places...park in the bay...Look under the car.

Don't really need to GET underneath...should be able to visibly see.

Put a $1.00 in the machine...spray anything that looks like snow or ice away....

    How impossible is that?

I ended up taking my car to my dad's garage and put it up on his lift. There was a ton of ice and snow impacted on top of the exhaust pipe. I guess with it being 10 degrees out it wasn't getting hot enough to melt it. No more rattle. There would have no way to lay on the ground and see that. Lol

    OK.
    I'll believe you.
Frosty The Snowman croaked under your car, and it wasn't visible in any manner but to put it on a lift.

Nice that your dad has a garage with a lift. Makes LOOKING for the ice and snow build up much easier.
