I believe the non SKS uses a smaller battery. Let Jim confirm.

I was able to get the DS46B24R to fit in a non-smart key Prius (post-2003) although it was a tight fit. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the correction, I believe I had that in my head from Honda sales booklets. Am I correct in remembering that the Honda hybrid uses a 12V starter for an emergency backup system or have I got that wrong too ?? LOL. ;)

^ The Honda Civic Hybrid has a conventional starter motor, powered by the 12 volt battery. Typically the IMA system starts the car, very smoothly. Normally the conventional starter is only used when ambient temperatures are very low, somewhere lower than minus 15 Fahrenheit?

The other time the conventional starter is used is when the IMA battery is close to totally clapped out. I've read several reports of this occurring and the car still insists everything is fine, no warning lights come on...

Is the Optima a lead acid battery or what type?

Just yesterday I had to replace my old Optima! It just gave out....about 5 years use!
About a hour or so of light work, new battery in, Good to Go!
The old Optima was out of warranty! Got a new one. I am glad I saved the OEM battery posts and ground wire.
The new Optima was the new Prius version.! Smaller post sizes!
With a new battery all those stupid little quirky things have ceased to trouble me or the car, which now runs fine!!!
