So I got fed up with Fuelly and having to cram 10 lines of data into the notes field, so I wrote a little tutorial on how to do this with Google Forms to get the same effect. I didn't see any document like this before (if I missed it, sorry), but it's so simple, I had to do a write up & share it. Works pretty well so far:

Project 'FuelMe', a Better Fuelly Alternative for Electric Vehicles - Articles - Articles - Home - ChargeNY

If this isn't working, or it's a bad idea, let me know guys ;)

Its a great idea.. your Google Form should replace the PiP Spreadsheet (see sticky or my sig)

Creating a form for that spreadsheet would definitely make things a lot easier, that's for sure.

I start with a spreadsheet, then transfer to Fuelly.

I respectfully submit that you guys are recording just a wee bit too much data.

(I would disrespectfully submit a comment as well, but I don't think you'd appreciate it.)

It has actually helped me understand how certain weather and driving conditions affect mileage, and allow me to get the most out of my car. I'm a big dork, met my wife online, house is automated, so yea, I probably am taking it too far, but I'm not hurting anyone. That said, judging by how many people are using Fuelly, the need is there ;)

Using Google Forms, there is no need for Fuelly at all IMO, plus you can track maintenance as well.

When I saw all the data you guys collect, my first thought was to program a microcontroller to read it all out from the diagnostics connector.

I thought about that myself, especially considering how the display lies, but the OBDII interface doesn't.

I am a big fan of small embedded linux gadgets. Is there a mod or anything available that can automatically collect fuel up information and store it on a device? I tend to like instrumentation that i can turn on and not touch for a few months then go back and see what i actually do in life. This would be a fun project to build if there isnt something already available. The storage via serial sensor, communication and internet distribution would be trivial to implement. I am just not keep on the sensors. Is this info available that can be obtained from rapidly monitoring that stamdard car diagnostic protocol (i forget what its called, omb or some crap) or would it be easier to drop something in the gas tank.

While I agree with you.....don't we both know we have to let it go?

I mean with some people sending in Oil samples for analysis, and buying Scan Gauges for the monitoring of even more Prius systems?

Tracking Data and collecting information simply IS a personality trait of many a Prius owner.

I don't want to apply a stereotype...but there is a segment of Prius Owners that want to know EVERYTHING possible about their vehicles capabilities and operation.

That's not me....but I've enjoyed the information they share.

Their dedication...allows me to ignore so much..........

Is this Google Form still going? If not and people are interested in one I would be happy to do it.

I suppose I could possibly figure out a way to do that. But does anyone update that anymore?

yes, ken checks it every week or so to see if anyone has entered new info. then he moves it to the mpg page.

In theory I can make this all automatic so it wouldn't require any upkeep after I set it up.

that would be great, but if it's a lot of work, you may want to poll to see how many would use it. seems like a handful on the other spreadsheet. the thing with fuelly is, people are always going there to pull stats like the new hyacc. but a personal record like this is not that useful.

    It's not ANY work.

I Copy the user's fill-up data on the Enter Data Here tab, then Insert and Paste it to the MPG tab for the user, I drag cells F and O-W from the previous row, then I delete the user's entry back on the Enter Data Here tab. I finally update the Entry Count.

Hopefully, any work you put into your project is a Real Improvement.

I don't think so, I don't just because I don't always keep all the info needed.

If a PIP Owner is tracking their Fill-up data and using Fuelly, then adding the data to the MPG Spreadsheet is easier, since there is a column for everything.

It started with a lot of activity from 58 owners, but only 14 entries by 5 owners since Dec.1, 2013.

So "If you build it, they will come" doesn't always work !!!
