Cool. I did not see this 'above vent' Proclip option, just the one that clipped to upper and lower edges of vent. I chose the CD slot Mountek over the Proclip 'in vent' mainly due to the cost of this option ($30 for mount + $40 for phone holder to attach to it). But if this actually 'clips' into the dash on the top of mount and makes it rock solid, that would be worth it to not have to have concern about harming the CD slot and putting up with a small amount of movement of Mountek CD mount for lager screen devices. CD slot mount is fine for my iPhone 4S, sightly moves for my wife.s larger 5.5" screen LG Optimus G Pro.

Great find. Thanks for posting iLuvmacs!

    iluvmacs,

Based on the pictures at the site, the top clip of your ProClip center mount seems to run the width of the dashboard -- how does it look? Would you be able to post a picture? Just wondering how it looks as well as the effect of any fading it might cause to the dashboard...

    Thanks!

Also, confirm that it does in fact clip on at the front/top of dash. Can you move the mount surface at all, or is it completely solid? Aesthetically, is it black or a gray color that is somewhat close to the grey Prius dash.
    Thanks :)

I bought the GripGo and mounted it on the left side of my windshield about centered on the pillar. You can see it, but its unobstrusive. However...when I removed my phone, samsung galaxy, the suction pulled the back on my phone off. Still working on this. A clip in mount is probably better.

I'm on the fence about which mount to buy, it's between the proclip center and left mounts for me. I would love to get the center mount but I don't know if it would obscure the user interface and It's unfortunate that the proclip site doesn't show a phone in the either mount.

If you have any photos please post, I would greatly appreciate it.

    iluvmacs,
Any chance you can post a picture of your real world mount with the phone attached? I'd love to see how you ran the charge cable as well as hear a bit more about it's sturdiness. We've had the CD Slot mount type (w/ side clamp phone holder) for a week or so now. Yesterday, I thought I heard noises coming from behind the mount, so I removed it and the CD pooped out. I must have accidentally hit the eject button, which is not hard to do as it is big. I worry that if it keeps trying to eject CD, it may damage the CD player. Plus, my wife who likes to listen to CD books on tape during her commute might prefer to have the slot open. For the long life we expect to use the mount and car, the $70 price tag may be OK if it is rock solid. BTW, is it easy to move left-right, or do you need to decide on your spot and leave it.

I wish Consumer Reports had included Pro-Clip in their review, though their pg 49 review was labled 'Affordable mounts.' ($10 - $30) :(

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay... I'm actually traveling for work this week. I'll be happy to post some pictures after I get home this weekend. I can tell you that it aesthetically works very well, it's extremely sturdy, and if you position it correctly, you won't block any of the user interfaces (from the driver's perspective... I imagine the passenger can't see the speedo). Cable routing is very easy if you are comfortable just popping 2 panels off and snapping them back on (there's tons of room for the cable in there).

I appreciate your taking the time to post while traveling. I may want to go your route to free up the CD slot and achieve 'super sturdy'. What type of 'phone holder' do you use? I find with my relatively small iPhone 4S, even the CD slot is plenty sturdy. But my wife has a larger LG Andoid (5.5" screen) and it's size, weight and leverage could benefit from a more sturdy mount. ( and I may change to a Samsung S4  in March... I am a Mac guy too ;) )

I have their adjustable iPhone 5 Lightning dock. It fits both my iPhone 5 and my wife's 5c (got the adjustable one since they have slightly different thicknesses, and the "slack" in it allows for both sizes to fit actually quite well)

I'm on the fence between the center and left mounts as well! Looking forward to the pictures...

I purchased and returned an Arduro U-Grip form Amazon last month and the only place I could mount it was either directly in front of or to the left of the steering wheel. All the other areas on the dash obscured the instrument UI and the suction couldn't hold the weight of my iPhone 5 for more than a day.

After that experience I definitely want a more permanent holder. The pro clip center mount almost looks too good to be true.

    Thanks in advance iluvmacs

We have ProClip mounts in all our vehicles, for both phones and GPS. They are 100% solid.

Your post and pictures were very helpful. I am leaning to the proclip that you installed, but awaiting iluvmacs' pictures before making my final decision...

Is there an AirBag near there that would shoot the phone and mount at you in a collision?

    No, and no worries.
