newby Toyota Prius owner here. I took off my front plate and I was wondering if anyone knows if they have color matching plugs to replace the bolts so you don't have the garish looking holes in your front bumper. I was able to get them for my Honda S2000 so hopefully I will be able to get some for this girl. I hate looking at the holes....but I also hate a front plate too

Try an assortment of nylon "mushroom head" plugs commonly available in any decent old-time hardware store. They are black (black nylon) and are easily painted to match the car with a Toyota paint stick, which is also handy to camouflage eventual scratches and small dings.

Ohhhhhh, very nice DadofHedgehog! I will go by Ace Hardware on my way home from school tomorrow. (n) Dang I was just at the Toyota dealer this afternoon picking up some new wiper blade refills and I totally forgot to pick up some scratch and ding paint. Never leave home without it....oh and damn wheel locks. Me gots the 17" wheels and I don't need those to go missing anytime soon. My list of needed items is growing.

People do not steal Prius wheels. Trust me on this one. The factory 17s may be hot commodities among PC members since 2009 but not a single post about them getting stolen (much less the entire Prius stolen and stripped).

:)Valid point and good observation. Most factory wheels aren't hot sellers other than true exotic cars. The Prius 5, 17" wheel is a good looking wheel in my opinion. Only thing better for me would be a 18" version. It would be interesting to know where the Prius ranks amongst stolen vehicles. Lowes sell a assortment of vehicle plugs for general use on specific and other vehicles. Cost for two is less than $3 versus the Bumper Plug brand at $27 plus shipping.

Does anyone know the size of the hole? That would help when looking for the right size plug to get at a hardware store. Or tell us what number size plug to look for.

That's the exception rather than the norm. I suppose those low lifes find the Prius stock 15s too ugly.

:)Make sure you look for plugs with "tapered" heads. I picked out several sizes, and returned what I didn't use. Use a plug that will fit the existing hold without enlarging the hole. Smaller is best. Check out the post below.

:confused:Constantly? Where is there a demand for Honda 15" wheels. Size and offset would limit applications. Most factory wheels collect dust when removed for something larger and more stylish.

Chicago. I personally know five Fit drivers who have had their wheels stolen, and there was a news story where three cars on one block were hit in one evening.

    1) California requires a front license plate -- or payment of a recurring fee of around $200 upon request. Apparently there is much more attention paid to this requirement in areas that have red light cameras. Do what you want, just mentioning it in the event you were unaware of your two options in this area.

    2) San Diego area (Alpine) ranks high in auto theft rates for the state.....how that translates to wheels, if at all, I don't know.

Like I said, that's the exception rather than the norm. Honda Fit owners are just unlucky to be the target of low-life street racers. If the Prius had better looking 15" wheels without wheel covers, they'd be similarly targeted whereas the rest of us 17"-wheel Prius owners would be left unscathed.

From what I've read, that's only if you're ticketed while parked. Otherwise, it's a fix it ticket with $15 or so administrative fee.

That doesn't mean much when it comes to the Prius because of the smart key system (can't be hotwired like a traditional car and must be flat-bedded away).

The fine county of Santa Clara must not have read that part when they soaked me four years ago.

So it's not a fix it ticket in Santa Clara? Interesting because that's not true elsewhere in California.

It was several years ago. Things may have changed or I might not remember it all, but a nighttime traffic stop on ***Highway 217?*** (the one that goes to Santa Cruz from San Jose) is not at all fun.

And, of course, they always look around and see what ELSE they can find to hassle you about....should of had my Trunk Monkey with me....but he does not leave Oregon.

Last time I got a ticket for no front plate, it was not a fix it ticket. It was purely a money grab, with no option to fix it. I just had to pay the $125. (5 years ag0), and didn't even have the option to fix it and have it signed off.

You got this ticket while parked, correct? A couple of members have reported getting such a ticket while parked with no option to fix it.
