How much extra are you willing to pay for electricity for the block heater?

    Nothing is free.

i guess you'd have to weigh the cost of electricity vs gas savings during warm up, plus wear and tear on the ice and related components. the rest is comfort and convenience. it would reduce pollution with a shortened warm up cycle, but there is pollution created in the production of electricity.

Unless your electricity comes from the hydro plant 3/4 of a mile away, like ours. Again, keep in mind that not everyone has "cost" as their #1 priority. There are also concerns other than "comfort and convenience."

Correct. It has good reviews, so maybe it's just my poor application; it looks like there is still a film of it on the glass, attracting rather tha repelling condensation.

Yes, thought you would like the weather update! We're waiting to see if we get yours in a few weeks. Though our rain really has been bad - floods here in Guildford, at a level I haven't seen before in the 20 yrs I've lived here. But nothing like your weather; the air streams we are in keep our weather moderate, much as we complain about it. Even our famous rain has to be weighed against the problems that Giora's compatriots are looking at, where the water ecosystem is reliant on one river and a large lake that is below sea level...

On my commute to work today, I had HVAC going to keep the windows clear. When I shut the car down, the screen said I went 16.5 miles and my fuel mileage was 108. Considering I was doing 66mph 2/3 of the way, I can't complain.

So what are all your concerns? It seemed like cost was an issue based on previous posts, but now you said it's not. Help us help you. ;)

I don't want to drive in ICE mode when unnecessary. What's so hard to understand about that...?

To put it plain and simple....doesn't sound like the PiP is the right vehicle for you.

Did you really not realize this would happen when you bought it?

Before I filter you, I'll note, once again, that it isn't my car, it's my housemate's car. She loves it. I drive a Leaf, which I like a lot. I'm trying to both help both PIP owners who care about not having heat in pure EV mode, and so that I can enjoy the PIP when I drive it. I don't know if you're a Troll or just don't bother reading what people write, but it really doesn't matter at this point. This topic has run its course anyway.

Leaf would have been the right car for you. Even Volt would start the gas engine due to low temp.

Well, for 9 miles trip, you need to preheat the car for 4 mins using gas right?

To do the same with electric, you'll probably need 20+ mins with L2 charger (sold seperately). The trip may take less than 20 mins, so the question become if it is even practical.

Time to update your profile pic.

So you are here to complain eventhough she loves her PiP?

As my friend usbseawolf said, time to update the profile pic...as well as the other info. When it says "Your Vehicle Year," I tend to think that is what the person owns for their main car.

The only thing I'm complaining about is the trolling. I followed the Prius forum when she had a Prius, now I'm doing it here so I know enough about the PIP to help her with hers. Incidentally, while I'm here I try to be helpful. You folks should try that, sometime!

If you had half an idea of what usbseawolf has done for the Prius community you wouldn't be so quick to say that. There aren't too many people that have given more knowledge on here than him.
