I took a random look at my wife's Prius today, and was pretty surprised to see that the rear left wheel was sitting rather unaligned, with a significant negative Camber, I am not sure as for the cause of this issue - I know that I took the wheels off and back on a couple of weeks ago, in order to inspect the brakes, and not sure if this issue was there before. My first idea was that I did not torque the wheel in correctly, so I lifted it, removed and re-installed the wheel, with extra attention, but - the same result is apparent. I know that the Prius' rear axle in not adjustable without after market shims, and I'll add that if I'll take the car in for alignment , the rear-left wheel's values would probably jump off the charts. The misalignment is really easy to notice with a naked eye, just by staring at the car from the rear. In case anyone has similar issue or knows of something obvious I'm missing (Yes, I know, it's only putting back a wheel, and I've done that tens of times by now), I'll be glad to get some advice. Thank you.
The most likely cause is that someone hit a curb or other obstacle with the LR wheel... As you already know, a minor misalignment can be adjusted using shims. If the error is more than minor then the rear axle will need to be replaced.
Its possible that the ground at the place where the car is parked is not completely flat. That may result in weird looking wheel position. - Alex
Thanks, I guess I'll need to drive into an alignment shope for them to have a check at it. I sure hope it's not calling for a new read axle.
You're right about that. I had a look at it in my garage and then in the drive way, I'll say that none of those surfaces are a model for a leveled ground, wouldn't hurt to try one more place that I'm sure it's leveled - there aren't too many here in Massachusetts
