If you look at my avatar you can see it- that "O" ring is greenish..
On my actual OEM Toyota handle it's orange.

i would think it's a weather seal, but it might just be a cushion when the plug seats.

My handle is a blue SVCC Sumitomo. The inside of my black plug looks just like yours, except where your green seal is, I have an empty ≈3/16" groove around the I.D. Does everyone have an orange or green seal in that groove?
(Leaving no nit unpicked, I don't think it's actually an o-ring ... a gasket in the form of a ring with a circular cross section... ;) )

Please don't use WD-40. It's a terrible lubricant, and worse still it's a solvent that will dissolve plastic. It's also toxic. Try dielectric grease, which is silicone based and wont attack the plastic - or you.

Sure sounds like your handle is missing the "O"ring.
If mine continues to act up- I'll pull it out.

Did you get a ChargePoint branded charge (110) cable with your PiP? Or is that a cable from a commercial public charger (or one that came with a 220v charge station)?

my blue simitomo has the orange gasket. now that i look closely, i see that it's set behind some holding clips and the top has an ear that goes up into a slot. i notice also that it isn't all the way back, there's about an open 1/4" behind it.

Just a follow-up. My charger without the o-ring is working fine. Thanks for the tips here, fellow PIP-ers.

Good question. Any 2013 (or 1014) PiP owners care to say if they have a green or orange rubber ring inside their charge handle? (also say what charge handle you have please)

This morning I looked into the car's charge port. About were the rubber ring would be, there is a discoloration or non shinyness around that place. I'm guessing that the ChargePoint plug my wife uses at work has this rubber ring and that the mild dirtiness or abrasion of daily use leaves a slight visual trace where the rubber ring sits.

I checked my OEM EVSE wand and it has an orange ring inside and it show to be sort of deformed by use. Daily use after 20 months.......
I have another OEM evse that I bought out of ebay,(unknown Prius model year) brand new to carry in the car in case of an emergency/convenience recharge, and it doesn't have the sealing ring inside of the wand. It must be a moisture prevention device.
    I'm including some pictures

Oh Crap! When I bought my PiP, I thought the salesman (at the drive thru window) asked if I wanted "onion rings" with that (PiP). I said no thanks, I'm not hungry. He must have said "O" Ring! :ROFLMAO:

Seems us 2012 PIP owners have the orange "O" ring in the OEM Toyota EVSE handle and maybe Toyota either removed it from the 2013 EVSE handle or modified the handle so it doesn't require an "O" ring any longer?

The SAE J-1772 EVSE equipment can't be modified in its receptacle and/or in the matting connector.
The handle with out the connector is another issue.
