Car tank capacity?

    Just filled up my plug in for the 3rd time since I've owned it.

    The computer said I've could've gone about 130 more miles but it was Sunday night and I didn't want to have to fill up during the work week.

    I put in about 6.4 gallons, that was to the auto stop (I don't top off)

    Before getting my PIP, I had a leased 2010 (regular) Prius. I could've sworn the gas tank was bigger in that car that nearly matched my other Toyota, a matrix (as seen in sig). 13.2 gallons.

    I looked in the Prius manual and it says the PIP tank is only about 10.3 gallons.

    Does the PIP have a smaller tank than the regular Prius? We gave back our leased Prius at the beginning of 2013, and it was my wife's car so I don't recall the tank size.

    pip is a smaller tank due to battery. i think liftback is 12.something.:)

    All 13.1 went in the tank. I was on a trip and didn't realize the PIP started flashing. By the time I got to a gas station, I was able to put all 13.1 in the Prius. I think I was lucky I didn't run out.

    :)I filled up last night for the fourth time in one year. It took 9.467 gallons with 53 miles remaining. Good to know the miles remaining appears to be very accurate.

    Does the 2010 Prius Three really hold 13 gallons or should you not use that gas station again? The specification for a 2012 Prius Three is 11.9 gallons.

    If you stuff the tank all the way to the top, then the extra 1.2 gal. will fit in the neck and any other parts that have space. I didn't run it down that low on purpose, but since I did, I filled it all the way up to the top.

    Our early 2010 holds 12.1 gallons measured by 'second cutoff' after running the tank run dry seven times with a spare, 1 gallon, gas can. When the power flow arrows go away, there is enough traction battery to find a safe place to add the spare gallon. Our 2010 Prius was delivered in late May, 2009 so treat this as a single data point.

    With 13.1 gallons fitting into the tank, either Weights & Measures should be checking that gas station or you may be starting some problems with the EVAP system.

    Not all gas tanks are created equal. Some can hold more volume than others, despite the 11.9 gallon capacity stated in the specifications. There was another thread on this. My wife's Sienna van has a 21 gallon tank that I've put 22 gallons into it multiple times, so it is not unique to the Prius.

    At least we Gen IIIs don't have that bladder thing in our tanks.

    I would be highly surprised if they aren't all the exact same volume across the same model of vehicle. That being said, even the stated capacity might be short of what it can actually hold just to add one more layer of idiocy proof. :)
