I am not sure if it is statewide or just local ConEd in Queens, NY area. At this point, it would be cheaper to just drive on gas without plugging it in.

Anyone else seeing the price hike?

That's right. PSE&G took over LIPO right?

I am moving to NJ soon. Will have to see the rates there.

Don't feel too bad. So Cal Edison has put the word out that they're planning big price hikes on the west coast. They're planning hearings with the PUC to request 40% increases over the next 4 years. They're also restructuring their 5 tier system down from 4 to 3 tiers, which will severely limit the advantages to "Time-of-Use" plans that benefit utility customers with large item appliances (like EVSE's) that can be used during off peak hours. This is exactly why we went PV in 2009.

I almost wouldn't be surprised to see gas prices go down and electricity prices continue to go up to spur adoption of EVs. I'm glad I got the PiP instead of an Energi or Volt for now.

Do PV panels extend the life of the roof?

Just wondering things to consider. Leaks, etc?

Down here in Georgia, I paid 9.9 cents/kwh, taxes included, last bill, standard residential rate.

I'm guessing most haven't seen this yet...
LI utility bills to spike by nearly $17 in January - Newsday
"The new year will bring a new electric utility to Long Island -- and an unrelated spike of nearly $17 for typical January electric bills.

Average residential customers will see a $16.91 increase in their bills next month because of an anticipated jump in natural gas pricing, and a backlog of unpaid fuel costs from November, LIPA said. LIPA is still managing utility rates even as PSEG-Long Island takes over management of the system Wednesday.
The hike will appear as an increase in the power-supply-charge portion of customer bills. The charge, which reflects the cost of fuel and energy purchases, represents about half of LIPA bills. The other half, known as the delivery charge, is to be frozen until January 2016 as part of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's LIPA reform act"

What is the new rate? The ConEd page I'm looking at shows 12.11 cents/kWh for standard power (not Green or Wind) in NYC for the coming year. That is not inconsistent with the second tier out here, which catches nearly everyone who has electric heat and hot water.

My area is now in the second year of a five year rate increase plan that will go significantly higher. That helped push me to PV and more conservation (heat pump water heater) last spring. Now I'm waiting for heat pump clothes dryers to reach North America.

What is the actual new rate?
Our total charge out on the island (power supply + delivery + taxes + etc...) comes out to about 21 cents/kwHr

Hmmmm.... I just did the math on my bill that just came in. Comes out to 17.65¢ per kWh. A few months back it was 12¢. That will just make my payback period for the Solar Panels that much shorter. Time to turn off all unneeded lights and stuff I guess. My electric is on a 100% green plan BTW.

I just sold my place and moving to NJ soon after closing. I don't have the bill with me but below is from a friend in Queens (4-5 miles away from my old place).

"Your total electricity supply cost for this bill is 23.1¢ per kWh". Supply cost includes merchant function charge and GRT & other tax surcharges.

It does not include delivery charge which cost as much as the supply cost.

I take it that it does not include the delivery charge, which is another 10+ cents per kWh.

Many of us don't have a separate delivery charge, so you ought to roll that into the posted price.

The Town of Babylon was not approving the PV solar install if I didn't replace my 12 years old shingles. So, there it went a new roof before the install.
Roof's manufacturers warranty is 30 years, PV panels are 25 years, in short, these components will outlive me by age...(y)

Best to put PV on a roof intended to last as long as the PV system. I had put off any solar decisions for several years knowing the re-roofing was coming soon, then did both in the same month.

Nope! That includes all costs, supply, delivery, wire rental, connection fee, just because we can charges, and Taxes, etc. I got the figure by taking the total bill and dividing it by the kWhs used...

Absolutely! One of the reasons I put in solar was that the roof was over 28 years old and was leaking by the old false chimney looking thing. I put on metal roofing that will last considerably longer than the panels. Won't have to worry about it again in my lifetime... Most solar companies will tell you that if your roof is more than a few years old, you are better off replacing the roof before putting up the solar panels.

If I do that, mine comes out to 33 cents per kWh. That's prior to the rate increase.
