Um . . . . . sorry for being late to the game - but whether or not cops are drawn to the Prius ... (this in the Plugin threads) wouldn't it be a question posed to the larger group? Just saying ...
Apart from that - driving our 2004 through the CA central valley at 60mph ... a mini van BLEW by me at LEAST 30mph faster than I was driving. It's a LONG stretch of farm land ... with an over pass maybe every 6 or 7 miles. Anyway - as this mini van BLEW by me at high speed, I noticed sitting below the over pass a couple hundred yards ahead, a highway patrol vehicle working the spot ostensibly for speeders. The mini van's brake lights came on. I snickered. As I passed the highway patrol car I looked into my rear view mirror - saw his lights come on, and he headed our way at a high rate of speed. I thought he'd pass me to pull the minivan over who'd now slowed to the speed limit.
Rather than stop the mini van for speeding, he pulled in behind me - and pulled ME over !!! He tagged me for window tint !!!
Yes - I had to ask him: " You know ... I thought you'd blow by me and pull over the mini van that speed past me doing at LEAST 85mph.". His response? "I like to mix it up now and then" meaning (I guess) it's important to not just give speeding tickets? Oh well - the crime wave of tinted windows has been averted.
   .

Welcome to California, where the cops are just idiots.

Saw a cyclist struck down and killed on the street south of my neighborhood a few months past. The cause of the accident was speeding on a 35mph cross street through the neighborhood.

I almost always drive faster than the speed limit in CA. I have actually been stopped once for speeding going over the mountain pass to Pismo. I was told to slow down. Also I have had CHP speed up to me and follow me on HWY99 when speeding but haven't been stopped. I actually feel like I get away with more simply for the fact that a Prius is hated for being "slow". :)

remind me, where the city I am living.

they removed trafficstop Camera on certain location, due to not gain good revenue :p aka less traffic stop violation captured by Camera.
they moved some Cameras and tweak the locations to earn more revenue ( I am guessing).
I know one location that used to have two Cameras for incoming and outcoming traffic. they knocked down outcoming trafficstop Camera. this was reasonable, since the incoming trafficstop Camera not far from Highway exit.

I like how they removed the cross walk count down after installing a camera at an intersection near my work. I assume this was done to not give people an advantage.... ( I'm sure there is some reasonable explanations)

To me, this whole red-light camera business is corrupt by its very nature. Basically, a private business approaches city officials (with the appropriate campaign donations), offering a deal where both the city and the private company can make a killing, under the cover of "public safety". There is every incentive to set things up to maximize revenue. The immediate feedback a driver gets from being pulled over by a police officer is lost; you may not know until weeks later that you committed an infraction, and may not even recall the "incident" at all. And the courts have gone along and ruled that red-light cameras do not violate your constitutional right to be able to confront your accusers. It reminds me of the classic small-town speed trap, where the speed limit is significantly lowered in an unexpected location, and the local cops spend their day parked behind a billboard waiting for prey. (Sorry for the rant.)

The mayor of one of the shore towns here told the red-light camera company to come and get their equipment out of his town.

The reason the red-light cameras were pulled from Los Angeles is because they are from an Arizona based company. After Arizona started all their right-wing attacks on Mexicans, the city boycotted all Arizona businesses. Eventually the red light cameras were pulled from the city.

Now granted, we need red-light and speed cameras desperately. Entitlement on the road comes in excess supply around Southern California.

To be clear, it's Los Angeles City that removed them, NOT Los Angeles County.

"Local cities with red-light cameras: Baldwin Park, Beverly Hills, Commerce, Covina, Culver City, West Hollywood, Walnut, Lynwood, Ventura, Cerritos, Oxnard, Highland, Riverside, Metro (MTA at transit line crossings), Hawthorne, Los Alamitos, Montebello, Santa Clarita
Cities that have removed or banned red-light cameras: Los Angeles, San Diego, San Bernardino, Pasadena, Long Beach, Glendale, El Monte, Bell Gardens, Corona, Maywood, Escondido, El Cajon, Gardena, Compton, Whittier, Fullerton, Grand Terrace, Upland, Moreno Valley, Lancaster, Murrieta, Los Angeles County (unincorporated), Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, Santa Fe Springs, Montclair, South Gate, Yucaipa, Inglewood (February 2014)"
