Ok, this all started this past monday. I drove into work and parked my car, a few minutes later I returned to my car and I couldn't unlock the door with my key fob (Which I just put in a new battery) I went to open my hatchback and it wouldn't open so I went in the car to hit the unlock button... nope, nothing! didn't unlock the car.

I put my foot on the brake to turn the car on and noticed it was very stiff, abnormal. I hit the start button with the brake pressed and nothing happened...

I decided to give it 10 minutes and try again, this time the car started fine but I noticed my radio presets were wiped.

Fast forward to Wednesday and the same thing happened, the car was dead and didn't start. I then waited 10 minutes and it came back on.

Now on Thursday (Yesterday) I get home, and the car did not start.. the check engine light flashed briefly and went away and there was a buzzing. I walk out of the car and walk back after a minute, the car recognized my key fob and started. BUT only half of my display showed up, only the left side, but not the right.. Something is definitely up! So I decided to take it in to the dealer.

It's been there all day and they do not know what it is.. oooooooook... Thankfully I have the Gold warranty and the car is at 56k miles. SHOULD be under warranty and definitely seems Computer related.

    Crossing my fingers now. :(

Fingers crossed for you as well.

I am wondering abut the 12volt battery. Heat is harder on a battery than cold, and I wonder if it is giving up the ghost and causing weird issues as have been reported by other owners.

Don't know if this is any help but I had a similar thing happen to me, took it back to dealer three times before they could duplicate the problem and yes it was the 12 volt battery I would press on the brake pedal and get no green light and come back later like you and it was fine
I was using a jumper battery one of those self contained (about 75 bucks worth) and I kept it in the car. I also was monitoring the 12 volt battery voltage before I got in the car I would open the passenger door, pop the hood and read the voltage in the junction box, sometimes it was 9.5 volts when it was low I would hook up the jumper battery and it was OK
After the new battery I have had no problems
All of these electrical systems act crazy with low voltage and any combination of weird things happen.

Have you heard any odd beeping when it "shouldnt" be? For several weeks my '08 was trying to tell me that the 12V battery was about to go - I ignored the beeps until it wouldn't start. Swapped out the 12V myself (not much trouble) and all is well.

So the dealer failed to replicate the issue, but at the same time wanted to charge me $500 for a new Combo-meter.. without even being sure that was the issue.

I picked up my car as they said it was fine all day. So far this weekend the car had been 100% issue free outside of last night.

After leaving the grocery store, I unlocked the door with my remote and put my groceries in the hatchback/trunk area and walked around to my drivers side door. Got in the car and hear the faint buzzing that you hear when you first start the car up. Yup, she's dead - power button does nothing, no lights on, I tested the lock/unlock button on the door and nothing happened.

So to fix it, I literally had to walk away from the car with my key fob on me about 10-20 feet for it to lose contact with the car. Then I walk back in, the power button is Green and I start the car no problem.

What the hell is going on here? I tried both of my key fobs but it looks like the sensor that detects the key fob may be the issue??

No, no weird beeping at all.

I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. How do I get this moved to the "Gen III 2010+ Prius Care, Maintenance and Troubles" board?

Did the dealer check the 12v auxiliary battery?

The tech said he tested it and it tested fine. I then asked if he tried another 12V battery.. and he did not.. Why? I have no freaking clue, he was lazy.

spend the couple hundred on the 12 volt. even if that's not the problem, you're gonna need one soon anyway. and if it is? no more frowny faces!(y) if you really don't want to spend the money, then study the battery testing threads and check it yourself.;)

MY Prius doesn't have a touch screen. Is there a way to check the 12v battery without one? What is MFD mode?

you can check it under the hood or at the battery with a digital multimeter.

What do you mean under the hood? I do not have a multimeter and i'd rather not have to go out and buy one.

the battery is in the back, but there is a wire running to a jump post in the fuse box under the hood. it's shown in your owners manual. you can get a cheap multimeter on amazon.

Got one $20 :) I'll check it out. I'm not very handy usually with car stuff.
