You guys who believe a web site over the dealer, need to sit back and wait and see, if the dealer contacts me, I will bring my PIP in no matter what the web site says!

You need to learn how "free inspection, "free brake check", "9.95 oil change" turns into a money maker for the dealer. There's always something that can be done to your car. Maps out of date??

Checked my VIN, same negative results as others have reported.
I'm thinking that the higher charge/discharge capability of the PiP battery may have required either more capable transistors or perhaps a modified software algorithm which doesn't have the "bug".

Mine is not included in the recall according to the Toyota website. Acceleration on the PIP seems to be reduced compared to the non-PIP. We may already have the software update and blamed it on a weight difference.

dealer potentially benefits anytime they can get you in the door! i'm waiting to hear back from them with more details. i'm certainly not going to make an appointment until i have confirmation. past recalls have always involved mailings, and some of those with the potential for electrical fire.

no, it's not a dealer thing. but you have to take it to the dealer for the recall work, if your vehicle has been recalled. you can't take it to toyota, they don't have any repair facilities.

Seems to go together right? They sell a lot of cars because they are reliable. So when there is a recall, there are a lot of cars in it.

Anyway, am I the only who doesn't care about this recall? I am mean, sure I want to get it fixed and all but I'll just wait until my next dealer service which isn't for another 5000 miles. If the car breaks down, I am in suburbia and will call a tow truck on Toyota's dime. I get a good reason to skip work and play all day. 1 hour commute plus getting the car towed and a rental means most of the day is shot anyway. I have a recall notice for my Hyundai Sonata right now that I am not worried about. It's also a software update according to the dealer. Going to the dealer on a normal day for an oil change is a 2-3 hour grind and I live 5 minutes away. To take care of this recall now, I would have to combat the other 750,000 people in the US crying to be heard. No thanks.

i agree, no biggie either way. most recalls are for a large amount cars for only a few problems and a large perceived potential. i would also wait for my next free toyotacare service. there's a lot of angst in priuschat however. just look at the posts of the IIHS new overlap test. people who want to trade in thier brand new car, as if somehow thier car had changed, and not the test. or the people back in the day when the sticker said 60 mpg and they bought the car, then epa changed the test and the sticker went to 50, and they wanted to sell the car, even tho they were still getting 60.

I mean the recall list. The dealer doesn't seem to be involved in generating the list. They could send a letter to PiP owners when it isn't necessary.

I agree why debate wether pIPs are on the recall or not wait and see if you get the registered letter from Toyota. I'm not worried either!

i'm starting to think the email from my dealer is a scam, probably sent to everyone who purchased a hybrid there in the recall years.

Part of it is because they sell more cars than anyone else. Another part is that their threshold for how many failures/complaints trigger a recall is set much lower than the "Big 3", e.g. 1 failure in 10,000 vs. 1 failure in 100,000.

    I agree with you Ken.

As computer and codes that runs on becomes more complex and depended upon to make the car run, this type is recall might be inevitable. I had friends who argued that buying Toyota (especially Prius) is not a good idea because their big safety recall in the past. In fact the same reason is why I decided to go with Toyota Pip, because they already went through recall, learned their lesson and respond fast(or at least appears to be) if something like this comes up.
I even thought about waiting another year and getting next gen model, but I want car that's been tested and fully "patched" fixes. It looks like majority of PIP driver don't seem to be affected by this recall.
    Again PiP rules:)

    Just to add.
    Checked my vin,
There are no open Safety Recalls or Special Service Campaigns for your vehicle.
    Good so far! I guess.
