ECU wire protector cover...worth $25?

    I checked with my Toyota and Lexus dealers. I was told that they are NOT available here in the US. The one for the Hybrid Camry and the Lexus, I was told, also, would NOT fit. I ordered mine from Japan.

    I'm researching ordering a quantity from a supplier in Japan. So, when I get them, others can have them in 3-5 days, instead of three to four weeks. The secret is NOT getting them "retail" from Japan, but from the wholesaler that supplies Toyota and directly export them. That way, you don't have to pay Japanese consumer VAT.

    It is WORTH the $25 to me to! I have found mouse droppings in my engine area. My son's car had a mouse that chewed up his spark plug wires!

    Actually, I've been working on these for three months now.

    I found that that there are at least two versions. There's the OEM version that I received from Japan. It does NOT have the "removal ears" that you can be easily removed by pinching together the two tabs with the fingernails of your thumb and index finger.

    I was told that I could get them in a month in late November, if I chose the OEM version. You'd have to use a modified set of tweezers to remove the OEM version that I had gotten from Japan and installed on my car.

    I told them I'd wait for the NEW version. They shipped them in late January.

    Actually, yesterday, I got an email from the Customs brokers that the NEW version that I ordered has cleared Customs and will be delivered to me next week.

    I'm NOT sure I'd go through the expense and wait time to do it, again.

    I'm just NOT allowed to sell them, here.

    GenIII has never had covers. Nothing is "missing" Toyota are confident of their sealing and support for the wiring. The after market stuff is to supply demand from worry warts.:)

    I want one. I guess it may be time to go searching on eBay. It's hard to tell OEM from aftermarket sometimes....

    Just make sure that you get the NEW VERSION "removable one."

    All those covers in the engine bay! I guess they keep out the dust and clumsy mechanic's tools. Here in the Mojave desert I think it's best to just vacuum the engine bay frequently and let things go mostly uncovered to keep them cooler.

    But the ECU cover does make sense in any climate and that's why I just ordered it. Keeping dust and other debris out of that area is a good idea for such a critical component. Toyota may be "confident of their sealing" but I'm not.

    Speaking of a "covered" engine bay, my two intake boxes are gone, replaced by an INJEN Cold Air Intake and heat shield/induction noise dampener. (I lined the heat shield that covers the cone filter with Dynamat.) Now my engine bay looks a bit "naked".

    UPDATE:
    Got my cover yesterday. When I went to put it on I found a small yellow leaf inside the area to be covered. Now I'm sure I needed the cover.

    I opened the gray plastic lever on the left side of the area, put the cover on and closed the fastening lever. Fits perfectly! Worth $25? Yes, if it prevents electrical problems.

    BTW, the vendor included a Chinese market Kit Kat in a "Merry Christmas" wrapper. I'm still laughing, but grateful that they were so thoughtful.

    And yes, "... far too expensive."

    I wonder if the covers are made out of soy-based plastic like the covering of the Romex on the wires from Japan apparently that's what makes it so appealing to the animals.
